Iraq Program

ICMP is implementing a multi-year project in Iraq to support authorities in their efforts to account for persons missing as a result of armed conflict and violations of human rights.

 

Vacancy Background

The Logistics and Security Assistant is a new position and is responsible to provide assistance for all logistics, procurement and security operations for the Iraq program.

 

Reporting to the Mission Support Manager and under the guidance and accountability of the Security Coordinator on all security related matters, the duties of the Logistics and Security Assistant will include, but is not limited to the following:

 

Security

  • Draft and distribute daily security briefings as required;
  • Maintain an effective security information management system aimed at identifying potential threats and risks to the mission and its programmatic activities including daily monitoring of local media reporting and social media networks in order to identify risk;
  • Assist the SECO to plan, Liaise and coordinate all Security arrangement including armed security mobility team details and security liaison on behalf of ICMP and maintain the PSD Tracker when required;
  • Be the first point of call in the SECO’s absence for all security-related issues ensuring fast and efficient solutions;
  • Act as point of contact with the ICMP contracted Private Security Companies, local authorities and local emergency services.
  • Assist the SECO in conducting security risk assessments of sites and programmatic activities
  • Accompany ICMP Field Teams to remote and potentially hostile areas to conduct on-site excavations and investigations.
  • Conduct any other security-related activities as deemed appropriate by the SECO.

Logistics

  • Assist in managing all logistics operations for the mission, including travel, ground transportation operations and the import of goods to the mission area;
  • Plan and coordinate ICMP personnel movements and security requirements within the area;
  • Assist in managing all contracts related to Mission premises and liaise, as necessary, with landlords to ensure proper maintenance and optimum availability of facilities and utilities (e.g. electricity, water, phone-lines, physical security and building repairs).

Procurement

  • Procurement assistance for the mission, in accordance with the ICMP Regulatory Framework;
  • Record and manage all equipment and assets to ensure they are properly accounted for and remain consistently maintain ICMP Iraq Program Assets Register.

Performing other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum six years of relevant experience related to security, logistics and/or procurement;
  • Excellent organizational, written, and spoken communication skills, in English;
  • Proven diplomatic and negotiating skills and an ability to work effectively in complex political environments.
  • The ability to work effectively for extended periods of time in potentially remote and hostile environments with minimum life support and welfare.

Additional requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender;
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, when necessary;
  • Driving license and the ability to drive manual transmission is desired;
  • Commitment to the underlying objective of assisting the authorities and families of the missing in locating and identifying missing persons in an impartial and transparent manner.
  • Physically and mentally robust with the ability to operate effectively in hostile environments.
