The purpose of the post is to facilitate the scaling up of communication activities linked to digital engagement among National Committees and country offices in support of fundraising, advocacy and brand positioning objectives and results.

UNICEF’s private sector division has a new strategic plan, and ambitious goals to deliver on income, influence and brand recognition. A key driver of increased income is a strong brand and key strategy to deliver that is through digital channels, to both build the brand and engender support. In the new plan UNICEF is bringing together a number of functions in the organization, ensuring a more integrated approach and fostering better collaboration and co-ordination of approaches. Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role will provide guidance and support to digital and innovative communication teams in National Committees.

The purpose of the post is to facilitate the scaling up of communication activities linked to digital engagement among National Committees and country offices in support of fundraising, advocacy and brand positioning objectives and results.

This post is responsible for developing solutions to meet UNICEF’s digital objectives based on consumer insight and data. Spotting trends and technologies that play roles in consumer’s lives, as well as familiarity with Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and  Search engine optimization (SEO) strategies will help cross-functional teams develop and evolve ideas to bring together UNICEF brand goals, fundraising objectives and donors/corporate partner needs. This will therefore help in increasing of funding for UNICEF’s programmes.

How can you make a difference?

  1. Identify activities with fundraising and brand-positioning potential for digital engagement. Guide the development and implementation of a digital strategy in PFP in collaboration with other Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) and Division of Communication (DoC) Sections and consultation with National Committee communication staff. Monitor trends in social media and responds to developments that would have an impact on UNICEF.
  2. Act as the PFP Communication and Marketing Section focal point for maintaining information flow to National Committees on new developments in fundraising, communications and brand. Regularly update his/her knowledge of the latest social engagement trends through digital media and plays a pro-active role in sharing knowledge with National Committee communication officers.
  3. Provide support to PFP and UNICEF global initiatives for communications, marketing, fundraising and advocacy purposes through the review of all digital communication-related aspects including online communication strategies, content and platforms, advice on appropriateness of messaging and channels, and ensures the integrity of the brand.
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with DoC in NYHQ as well as other PFP sections, to ensure plans and activities are well aligned and coordinated.
  5. Maintain an updated data set on levels of engagement resulting from different campaigns and content packages to inform strategic planning. Ensure strong system of monitoring and evaluation for centrally developed content, to include income, brand and reach indicators.
  6. Devise roll out plans aimed at ensuring that National Committee communication staff are regularly updated on new social networking opportunities through digital and other emerging media.
  7. Collaborate with colleagues in communications, marketing, advocacy and fundraising to identify opportunities for integrated, mutually supportive activities.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

Education:

Advanced degree in international relations, digital communication, media relations, journalism, marketing or a relevant field.  A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

A minimum of five years working in the field of digital communication, including recent experience in social networking, ideally including experience in the development and implementation of social networking communication campaigns using digital and other media. Experience in UNICEF or another international development organization would be an asset.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of another UN language, especially French, would be an asset.
