Overall Purpose of the job

Applications are invited for a Social and Behavior Change Advisor for Mercy Corps Jordan Water Innovations Technologies project. The role is offered on a full-time basis over a five-year project period and the post holder will be part of the Communication team. The advisor will deliver specific functions with the Communication team, with a particular focus on campaigning and outreach. He/she will provide leadership by staying current to evolving behavioral trends connected to water use in Jordan.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

· Develop a participatory and evidence-based behavior change campaign focusing on water use and awareness in Jordan in all phases from formative research, through design, media and materials production, community mobilization and evaluation. Candidates should be adaptable to a variety of behavior change practices, strong at coordination and training, and an enthusiastic advocate for project success.

  • Ensure development of high-quality products, uptake of innovative dissemination practices, monitoring and evaluation of communications activities and impact, and adherence to USAID branding and marking guidelines;
  • Coordinate closely with communications specialist, shared services, and technical staff to ensure sharing of project tools, approaches, and materials with wider audiences.

· In coordination with project partners, conduct formative research for messages and awareness campaigns that will lead the style of reporting and outreach.

· Responsible for sharing best practices in behavior trends and share new knowledge/evidence and best practices through collaboration with project partners and personnel

· Maintain and develop project partnerships and relationships with key water stakeholders in Jordan.

· Complete detailed strategy write-ups, work plans, and deliver quarterly reports.

· Develop or review technical resource materials (e.g., training materials, strategy documents) and programming tools to support meeting project behavioral change and awareness objectives.

· Supporting the Communication team to deliver high quality, impactful communications campaigns and materials in support of the Section’s Operational Plan goals.

  • Some travel will be required.

  • In addition, the post holder may be required to undertake any other duties as may be assigned by Management from time to time in addition to or in lieu of the duties detailed above.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 7+ years experience working in project development or communication in Jordan, especially behavioral change and outreach

  • Degree in relevant field (marketing, communication, social sciences)

  • Knowledge and experience in social policy and behavioral change communication in Jordan is required.

  • A minimum of 5 years experience of leadership and management of relevant campaign projects.

  • Experience in developing and implementing a behavioral change communication strategy, focusing on creating awareness and behavioral change around water use.

  • Experience in designing and implementing community development projects that include a strong behavior change communication component.

  • Guiding and providing technical assistance to project team/partners working on Social Behavioral Change Communications projects.

  • Proven ability to develop a range of engaging, impactful behavioral change communication tools and materials

  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of community development projects and operational research experience.

  • Ability to convey complex information in a straightforward, interesting and motivating manner.

  • Keen interest in and/or past experience of working in development, or campaigning role.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to understand and communicate to a wide range of audiences

  • Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining both a highly organized level of accuracy and output; and to plan and priorities work to ensure deadlines are met

  • Administrative skills and computer literacy including Microsoft Office
