The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff. To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements: • be enrolled in a degree programme in a undergraduate or graduate school; and • be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French or Spanish and fluent in the working language of the office they are applying to; and have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution record

Purpose of the internship

Under the direct supervision and close guidance of the Human Resources (HR) Manager, the HR Sourcing & Talent/outreach interns of the ESRS will be responsible for providing support to Sourcing team by evaluating outreach initiatives against talent management statistics.  This is to further emergency recruitment and staffing of highly qualified professionals in fast-track country offices.

Tasks & Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Evaluate the effectiveness of current ESRS Sourcing/Outreach initiatives and programs.
  2. Collect, interpret and analyze HR recruitment data (specific to placement of talent in emergencies) to help strategize ESRS sourcing processes.
  3. Develop and implement ESRS outreach, material, campaigns, and strategies by leveraging digital media tools, niche sites and other professional networks in order to: 
    • Implement sourcing and outreach procedures for ‘hard to fill vacancies” by functional area and/ by level
    • Present and promote work in fast-track country offices
    • strengthen pipeline of potential candidates for fast-track country offices
    • Cater to colleagues/ potential candidates in emergency duty stations
  1. Develop/Ensure mechanisms are in place for monitoring the placement of displaced staff members as a direct result of sourcing initiatives.
  2. Evaluate the efficiency of current data collection systems for the sourcing team and make recommendations for improvements where necessary.
  3. Liaise with the Outreach Section in DHR for other sourcing matters.

 

Qualifications of a Successful Candidate:

  • A first-level university degree in Communication, English, Journalism, Multimedia Communication, Public Relations, or Marketing, or equivalent professional experience is required. *An advanced university degree in Communications, Marketing and Outreach is a strong asset *
  • Experience with non-profit or corporate communication and marketing, with strong professional writing skills, and experience segmenting communication is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required and a strong asset for this role.
  • Experience with sourcing, developing, and managing high volumes of content, both short and long form is a strong asset.
  • Experience with digital publishing, content management systems and web-based applications is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
