Context:

All translators are required to have a perfect command of their mother tongue and an excellent knowledge of at least the two other official languages. They must also be able to write in a clean, clear and perfectly grammatical style in French.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior French Translator and Reviser the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible for providing translation services/ support covering a broad range of documents and subjects dealt with by the Organization. Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Translate mainly from English, but also from Spanish or other working languages, into French a full range of documents, reports, formal texts, manuscripts, official correspondence, publications and other material.

2. Subject to revision, produce, within a given timeframe, accurate and complete versions in the target language which require the acquisition of information on the subject matter concerned. 3. Collect and verify terminology and references.

4. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Page 1 / 3Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Translation from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in Translation or a related field with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Good knowledge of the subject matter dealt with by the Organization; • Considerable knowledge and understanding of a substantive technical or administrative field; • Sound language translation skills and excellent drafting ability in French; • Knowledge of and experience using CAT tools, word processing software, and ability to use computer based terminological and information tools.

Languages

Perfect command of French (mother tongue). Excellent knowledge in English and Spanish is required. Working knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset. Desirable Competencies:

Other:

Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile. The list of NMS countries above includes all IOM Member States which are non-represented in the Professional Category of staff members. For this staff category, candidates who are nationals of the duty station’s country cannot be considered eligible.
