The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

With the launch of an ambitious new Global Strategy, Plan International aims to transform the lives of 100 million girls. To deliver this ambition, Plan International is undergoing a significant transformation to put greater focus on advocacy and influencing to drive changes in policies, behaviours and practice at international, regional, national and local level, making a substantial improvement in the lives of children and in particular the rights of girls.

Plan International has offices in New York, Geneva, Brussels and Addis Ababa that are responsible for driving our agenda with the United Nations, the European Union and the African Union.

The UN is the primary global platform for promoting and protecting human rights, including the rights of girls and children. Plan International carries out influencing activity at the UN Headquarters in New York, to drive respect for the rights of girls and encourage governments to achieve the targets for girls within the 15-year Sustainable Development Goals Agenda.

This is an exciting opportunity to represent the organisation in day to day influencing work and relationship building, creating opportunities to further our agenda and coordinate high level delegations, technical experts and youth ambassadors for key strategic moments, supporting the global strategic direction of Plan International’s overall influencing and strengthening Plan International’s policy, advocacy and campaigning work.

You will be responsible for fostering productive high-level relationships with relevant girls and child-focused agencies, building alliances to achieve influencing objectives, working with government missions to commit their states to ambitous improvements in fulfilling the rights of girls, and coordinating effective Plan International participation in significant intergovernmental events.
