Background Information - IPAS

Based in UNOPS Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, the UNOPS Integrated Practice Advice and Support (IPAS) unit provides strategic project implementation advice and operational support services to field offices under the Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (ECR), Asia Regional Office (AR), Middle East Regional Office (MR), Africa Regional Office (AFR), the Peace and Security Cluster, and UNOPS HQ units for HR and Legal support. 

IPAS provides support in the areas of Procurement, Legal, Finance, Human Resources and Admin. By collecting and analyzing information on interactions with several offices, IPAS creates training plans and makes recommendations for more efficient project implementation processes.

Background Information - Job-specific

IPAS HR is a small team of 8 colleagues (and 8 different nationalities) offering a 3 months full-time and hands-on internship. The Human Resources Intern is responsible for providing support in the area of recruitment & HR advisory services, and will be involved in both operational and strategic work.  The HR intern will be entrusted with small projects that s/he will be able to manage independently and will get a privileged exposure to global HR operations in a UN organization.

The HR intern works under the guidance of the IPAS HR Advisor/Team Lead and in close collaboration with all team members within the IPAS HR team to support their work and ensure consistent service delivery.
This internship needs to start latest by the end of January 2018.

Functional Responsibilities

1. Provides support to recruitment, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Support to outreach efforts
  • Assistance in longlisting and shortlisting
  • Assistance with the administration of written assessments
  • Administrative and logistical support to general recruitment processes
  • Participation in interview panels and minutes taking
2. Ensures efficient project support to IPAS HR Team, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Research on competency-based interview questions
  • Establishment of a library of CBI questions
  • Enhancement of existing templates used to communicate with candidates
  • Update of the IPAS HR intranet page
3. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing and contribution to product/process efficiency, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Contributions to knowledge management projects;
  • Provide suggestions for policy improvements;
  • Support process efficiency initiatives;
  • Provide input to the development and maintenance of corporate systems and tools.

Education

A first level University Degree in HR, Psychology, Communications, Business or related area is required.

Experience

Some work experience in an international environment, in HR or communications would be a strong asset.

Excellent English writing skills are required (native speaker preferred).

Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages and experience in handling of web-based systems is required.

Languages

Fluency in written and oral English required (at native speaker level).  Knowledge of second UN working language highly desirable.
