Organizational Setting


The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

The Division of Human Health is organized into four Sections whose objectives are to enhance the capabilities of Member States to address needs related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of health problems through the development and application of nuclear techniques within a framework of quality assurance.

The Nutritional and Health-Related Environmental Studies Section's aim is to assist Member States in combating malnutrition throughout the human lifecycle by contributing technical expertise in the use of nuclear techniques, in particular stable isotope techniques, for the development and evaluation of nutritional interventions. Malnutrition covers a wide spectrum, the priority areas of which include maternal and child nutrition, obesity and non-communicable disease prevention, and food based strategies to combat micronutrient deficiencies.


Main Purpose


As a consultant in the Nutritional and Health-Related Environmental Studies Section, the Nutrition Scientist will primarily assist with the preparation and organization of the conference on 'Understanding the Double Burden of Malnutrition for Effective Interventions' (DuoMal) in addition to performing other tasks under the direction from the Section Head.


Functions / Key Results Expected

 

  • Tailor the abstract management system (INDICO) to the requirements of the upcoming conference;
  • Manage abstract submission including review of abstracts received; 
  • Identify potential speakers based on their relevant work with regard to the objectives and topics outlined in the conference announcement;
  • In consultation with NAHRES team, set up the programme committee; 
  • Coordinate regularly with conference services, programme committee, organize telephone consultations, prepare draft agenda and facilitate timely review of abstracts;
  • Act as conference rapporteur and coordinator during the conference; 
  • Prepare, in consultation with NAHRES team, the conference report and other outputs.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Public Health Nutrition

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

 

  • Advanced university degree in Human nutrition or related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of working experience in nutrition.

  • Experience with event organization an asset.

  • Proven ability to plan and work within a logistical-technical project in close liaison with the project team in an international environment an advantage.

  • Proven ability in conference organization an advantage.

  • Proven experience in editing abstracts and papers with health-related background and conducting systematic reviews of conference papers pertaining to nutrition /health-related topics an advantage.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external counterparts and to work as a team player in a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment with respect and sensitivity for diversity.

  • Communication skills\: Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for drafting and presenting reports.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) an advantage.


Remuneration

 

 

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 240, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
