Organizational Setting

The Director General's Office for Coordination (DGOC) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States' needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.

Main Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Special Assistant to the Director General and senior professionals in the DGOC, the Coordination Officer provides advice, liaison and support to policy development, coordination and implementation. The Coordination Officer assists in research and analysis, review and clearance of various reports and correspondence.


Role

The Coordination Officer is\: 1) an analyst, providing background information through research on relevant issues and interaction with counterparts in-house as well as in Member States' diplomatic corps; 2) a liaison between internal experts and senior managers and Member States; 3) a team member, assisting the Special Assistants to the Director General and senior professionals in the DGOC with decision-making support and in-house coordination.


Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Provide programme and policy coordination with relevant IAEA Departments/Offices, in the areas of nuclear energy, nuclear sciences and applications, and technical cooperation.
  • Review for quality control and completeness of IAEA reports relevant to the areas of nuclear energy, nuclear sciences and applications, and technical cooperation provided to DGOC for clearance to be submitted to the Policy-Making Organs.
  • Liaise with relevant Departments to enhance coordination, particularly with respect to the review and clearance of correspondence with Member States, international organizations and other counterparts for various conferences, technical meetings and reports.
  • Conduct research and carry out analysis with a view to improving coordination and enhancing relations between Member States and the IAEA Secretariat.
  • Provide coordination support to relevant Departments on issues of an interdepartmental nature in order to ensure timely and appropriate implementation of agreed policies.
  • Prepare summary reports of proceedings of various meetings and international conferences.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in the areas of assignment. Provide guidance and draft recommendations to incorporate best practice and improve business processes in the IAEA.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • University degree with relevant combination of academic qualifications in science, engineering or a related field. Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) would be an asset.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience preferably in international organizations.
  • Experience in programme management or programme coordination would be an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $58583 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 28471, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
