The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

Purpose of the internship:

UNICEF Country Office in Turkmenistan works in partnership with the Government under the programme of cooperation for 2016-2020 aims to accelerate the universal realization of child rights through aligning its legal framework, policies and practices for children with international standards and best practices. The partnership focuses on strengthening accountability mechanisms, raise awareness about child rights, and improve data collection and analysis, leading to better national planning and budgeting as well as implementation and monitoring of SDGs. UNICEF advocates with the Government towards increased attention and investments in programmes benefiting children and identifying the most urgent priorities in reducing equity gaps for children. The programme’s main thrust is “equity from the start”, which emphasizes work across government systems to ensure quality and continuity of services.

Limited access to and the quality of official data that are publicly available have proven to be a challenge to development planning of the Government and all international development partners. In the recent years, a shift has taken place concerning readiness of the Government of Turkmenistan to cooperate with UNICEF around data sharing.
