UNICEF has an opportunity for a Temporary Assignment (5 months) for a Finance and Accounts Specialist, P3 level, that will support the National Committees and Country Offices Financial Reporting Team of the PFP Finance section responsible for overseeing the complete, accurate and timely reporting and recording of financial transactions relating to private sector fundraising activities.

Private Fundraising & Partnerships Division (PFP) maximizes UNICEF’s private fundraising in industrialized countries through a strategic partnership with National Committees, providing them with guidance, innovation, technical expertise and products. PFP is also providing technical support to UNICEF country offices where there is proven potential for significant private fundraising. PFP Financial Services Unit of PFP Finance section is responsible for overseeing the complete, accurate and timely reporting and recording of financial transactions relating to private sector fundraising activities.

The position is placed in the National Committees and country offices Financial Reporting Team of the PFP Finance section and is supervised by Finance/Accounts Specialist. This role is responsible for reviewing and processing of revenue from a private sector, monitoring cash receipts and outstanding balances due to UNICEF to ensure timely collection of all funds (RR and OR).

How can you make a difference?

The post holder is also responsible for development, documentation and implementation of current and new business processes, recommending to optimize and streamline the existing procedures.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the National Committees and Country Offices Financial Reporting Section and accounting tasks.
  • Manages the National Committees Cash Remittance Forecast Reports analysis and prepares a quarterly consolidated report with the summary and explanations of significant variances (above 20 per cent).
  • Monitors the transactions in the Fund Remittance Management (FRM) system for National Committees and other fundraising partners.
  • Monitors outstanding balances for all National Committees and fundraising partners.
  • Leads the monthly and year-end processes and analysis of PFP revenue and receivables.
  • Evaluates accounting process and controls and recommends changes in financial system (e.g. SAP modules) and procedures in relation to private sector revenue recognition.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting of various problems, issues, coordinate resolutions in consultation with relevant colleagues, as applicable.
  • Ensures all financial reporting deadlines applicable to his/her area of responsibility are met.
  • Provides training and guidance to staff as needed.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Finance Manager

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree (master) in Business Management, Finance Management or equivalent. Professional qualification and membership of an internationally recognized accountancy body (Certified Public or Chartered Accountant) mandatory.
  • Minimum of five years of professional work experience, with at least 3 years of international working experience mandatory.
  • Good understanding of the financial aspects, recording and reporting of revenues and expenses in the international public sector.
  • Proficient in the use of standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Experience of Management Information Systems applications, especially SAP ERP will be desirable.
  • English – Proficiency is required. Working knowledge of one of other UN language would be an asset.
