Job vacancy announcement for Programme Officer (DRR/CCA), NO-2, Based in Yangon.

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. UNICEF has spent 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. Defending children's rights throughout their lives requires a global presence, aiming to produce results and understand their effects. UNICEF believes all children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfill their potential – to the benefit of a better world.

For every child, an advocate

In 2013, the UNICEF mid-term review identified the need to strengthen resilience programming given Myanmar’s high vulnerability to natural and man-made disasters. In 2015, a multi-year work plan was developed to strengthen the risk reduction and preparedness capacity of the Relief and Resettlement Department, which was rolled-out in 2016-2017. In parallel, UNICEF implements disaster risk reduction (DRR)-specific projects whilst ensuring that all sectoral initiatives (WASH, education, health, nutrition, social protection and child protection), in both development and humanitarian contexts, are risk-informed and enhance the resilience of children. As climate change impacts Myanmar and ASEAN region more every year, it’s important for UNICEF to understand the impacts on children and plan our programmes to be prepared accordingly.  UNICEF also maintains high levels of disaster preparedness in a country that is regularly affected by rapid onset emergencies in addition to protracted humanitarian situations.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the DRR/CCA Specialist, and working with the Emergency Unit, you will provide professional technical assistance and support for programme design, planning and implementation, management and evaluation of programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting, in support of achievement of DRR and climate change adaptation (CCA) programme goals and objectives.
