Background
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer [PO], the intern will be expected to provide support to the communication functions of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Field Unit (FU) Team.
The candidate is expected to work on a daily basis with colleagues in the UNV Field Unit, and at times with UNDP, UNV/HQ Bonn, UN Agencies, UN Volunteers, Key Stakeholders, volunteers and the general public.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation and production of communication materials, fast facts brochures and newsletters, publications and reportsUpdate UNV Malawi social media on a regular basisAssist in developing graphic materials, edit audio-visual content, prepare PowerPoint presentations, and other related activitiesAssist in the maintenance, development and monitoring of UNV Malawi’s presence on social networks, including Facebook and TwitterAssist in conducting of events in collaboration with the UN Communications GroupAssist in the creation visual content for online distribution and sharingAssist in the coordination and documentation of University youth volunteer schemes activitiesAssist in planning and implementing new initiativesAssist in the organizing, implementation and documentation of IVD eventsAssist the UNV FU with any other duties as maybe assigned

Required Skills and Experience
Pursuing final year/awaiting results of University First Degree or Masters' Degree in the field of communications, public relations, journalism, development or equivalentExcellent command of written and spoken English required and proficiency in Chichewa is an advantageAbility to think and work logically and work precisely with attention to detailInitiative, sound judgement and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members and UN Volunteers from different nationalities and cultural backgroundsAble to facilitate activitiesGood computer skills (Microsoft Office, Publisher, PowerPoint etc.)Polite and outgoing

Status
Interns are not staff members.Interns are not sought or accepted as substitutes for staff.Interns may not represent UNV in any official capacity.This is non- remunerated function.
Length
The length of the initial internship at UNV Malawi is 3 months which may be extended to 6 monthsThe duration of this initial internship will be from January 2018 – March 2018
