We are looking for a highly qualified Livelihood Assistants (Training) for our Livelihood program in Kilis - Turkey.

About the Job

The overall objective for DRC in Turkey is the protection and promotion of durable solutions to displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights with more immediate objectives focusing both on the immediate subsistence needs, protection and self-reliance support as well as a more long-term focus on social cohesion and resilience building. DRC works with beneficiary communities and individuals to prevent and reduce protection threats, and build resilience.

The objective of the Livelihood Program is to develop and strengthen capacities and self-reliance of vulnerable Syrian refugees and host community to reduce their socio-economic vulnerabilities. The activities include: 1) Counselling, transferrable-skills trainings and one-to-one coaching to provide beneficiaries with the information, skills and resources needed to develop more resilient livelihood strategies; 2) Vocational skills training to improve and/or diversify vulnerable peoples’ skillsets so they can pursue livelihood opportunities that increase their ability to adapt and cope with shocks.; 3) Productive asset support and small business grants to motivated beneficiaries to start income-generating activities. Small business management trainings will be carried out in view of building the capacity of local entrepreneurs in developing their networks, skills and business plans. Selected business plans showing an economic viability and profitability will be provided in/kind support on a matching basis to support the startup and/or expansion of the home based business or middle size enterprises.

The position will be based mainly in the DRC Kilis Field Office with a frequent visit to ORANGE-DRC Livelihood Center and the training venues of the vocational training service providers / partners.

            Duties and Responsibilities

The Livelihood Assistant (Training) will have the following duties and responsibilities:

 

Organization and facilitation of vocational training sessions (50%)

  • Based on counselling, identify beneficiaries that are in need of vocational skills trainings
  • Based on market mapping & research conducted by a market mapping assistant on regular basis, prioritize the gaps in the local market and incorporate the results of the market mapping research while identifying the appropriate vocational trainings for beneficiaries.
  • Reach out to beneficiaries to invite them to participate in trainings and other livelihoods activities per the recommendations of the Counselling Assistants
  • Lead procurement of training materials and distribute at training sessions
  • Ensure attendance sheets are filled out by all training participants and trainers at each training section
  • File attendance sheets and training evaluations for easy access by Data Assistant and M&E Assistant
  • Maintain up to date contact information for beneficiaries and follow up with them after they receive vocational training, answering their questions and responding to their concerns
  • In coordination with Senior Officer Phase 2, follow up the vocational and technical skills courses to ensure quality of implementation.

 

General Programming and Operations (30%)

  • At all times be aware of, note, and report to supervisor the changing needs of target populations in terms of vocational skills trainings (Syrians and vulnerable host community members)
  • Identify and discuss new approaches to improve the quality of vocational trainings
  • Maintain the Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (i.e. suggestion box at the center) and liaise with relevant staff to analyze beneficiary feedback.

 

Monitoring & Evaluation (20%)

  • Work closely with the monitoring and data management team to provide relevant information and data, such as registration numbers, beneficiary feedback about vocational trainings, attendance sheets, training evaluations, etc.
  • Participate in the internal evaluation of the program

Additional Duties

  • Complete any additional tasks identified by Supervisor

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have business administration, economics, finance, social work, international affairs, humanitarianism, or a related field.

Required qualifications

  • Knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

  • Experience working in the field (preferably experience from southern Turkey)
  • Fluency in Arabic and English. Turkish is an asset.
  • Relevant professional experience with a humanitarian aid organization
  •  

  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines

  • Fluency in Arabic and English (preferably both written and oral). Turkish is an asset.
    • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn from others

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience in vocational skills trainings
  • An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region
  • Experience working with Syrian refugees

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a 5 months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 01 February 2018 and be willing and able to work in Kilis.

We offer a fair compensation package depending on your qualification and experiences as well as additional allowances such as relocation allowance and living allowances, if applicable. DRC Turkey is income tax exempted.
