The Market, Supplier Finance and Innovation Centre (MSFIC) at Supply Division is looking for a person with technical knowledge within Health Technology as well as the project management skills to drive individual Product Innovation Projects (PIPs). The Innovation Specialist (Health Technology) will apply specialized technical knowledge and, in collaboration with counterparts in UNICEF field offices and Programme Division, help evolve the strategy for Product Innovation within Health Technologies and initiate, scope and manage PIPs with the goal to enable the procurement of fit for purpose, end-user driven products to be used UNICEF’s programmes and emergencies.

For every child, dignity The Product Innovation Manager (Emerging Challenges and Accessibility) applies specialized product, programmatic and partnership knowledge, and in collaboration with counterparts in UNICEF field offices and Divisions, manages and drives product innovation projects forward with the goal to enable the procurement of new, fit for purpose, end-user driven innovative technologies to be used UNICEF's programmes and emergencies. The particular focus the Innovation Manager is on accelerating the development of new water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Education, and Accessibility products.
 
How can you make a difference?
 

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  1. Manage UNICEF’s Health Technology product innovation projects including general project management as well as documenting and communicating developments to management and the innovation review board.
  2. Manage the various steps of product innovation including user needs research, market research, communication with developers, field trials, impact and cost effectiveness analysis and scale. Contribute to fundraising activities and driving proposal development to enable product innovation within the Health Technology space.
  3. In collaboration with UNICEF Programme Division, Regional Advisors, Country offices and other key partners, drive the development of Target Product Profiles (TPPs), technical specifications and terms of references (TORs) as basis for driving product innovation and subsequent procurement of relevant products.
  4. Ensure strong connection between MSFIC, and Health Technology Centre (HTC) within Supply Division, and the communities of practice within Health globally, with particular focus on UNICEF Programme Division, regional and country offices.
  5. Create tools and framework to optimize and document best practices for driving product innovation within the Health Technology space.
  6. Any other duties or assignments as requested by the supervisor.

 

DECISION-MAKING AND IMPACT/KEY RESULTS:

 

  1. Advancement of existing and inclusion of new PIPs within the Health Technology space. (NB. PIPs can range from point of care, invitro diagnostics, through to pneumonia diagnostic aids, immunization delivery products through to cold chain innovations.   2. Interagency collaboration in development of TPPs, specifications and standards for innovative products and technologies.
  3. Timely technical contributions to introduction of new and/or innovative technologies in programmes, including communication, monitoring and evaluation, and review of fit for purpose.
  4. New products and technologies successfully integrated into UNICEF Health programmes as well as supporting emergency response. Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration with relevant stake holders (WHO, PAHO, USAID, BMGF etc.)

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

 
Education:

A completed advanced university degree (Master’s Degree) in one of the following areas: Public Health, Policy, Nursing, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Device Engineering, or a field relevant to Health Technology.

or
 
A completed 1st university degree (Bachelor’s degree) and 7 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced degree (Master’s).
 

Additional training or courses in product development, project management or Public Health, would be an asset.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive relevant professional experience in development or scaling Health Product Innovations.
  • International working experience in a low resource setting is an asset.
  • Experience in management of product innovation projects in Health Technology is highly desirable.
  • Experience in conducting user needs assessments is highly desirable.
  • Experience in conducting Field Trials/end user assessments of innovations is highly desirable.
  • Experience in development of TORs, technical specification and/or Target Product Profiles is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing virtual teams is an asset.
  • Experience in market research is considered an asset.
  • Maternal and child health and nutrition knowledge and experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with international humanitarian organizations (UN, NGO and in field locations) is considered an asset.
 

Language Requirements:

Proficiency in English. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
