How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the Emergency Specialist, the DRR/CCA Specialist will be responsible for programme design, planning and implementation, fundraising, management and evaluation of programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting, in support of achievement of DRR and CCA programme goals and objectives. This includes working with sections to integrate DRR/CCA into programmes and ensure that activities funded by UNICEF are adaptable to the risks and changing environment in the country. It also includes working with relevant Government departments to strengthen the Government’s ability to prepare for and respond to disasters.

To qualify as a/an [champion or advocate] for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University degree in Social Sciences, Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Sciences, Social Development, Community Development, or other relevant disciplines. A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with two additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • At least five years of relevant professional work experience at national and international levels in development, emergency, DRR, climate change adaptation, or resilience settings as reflected in the tasks mentioned above.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and thorough understanding of DRR, climate change adaptation and resilience, and their implications for children.
  • Experience and knowledge of good practices for capacity development of government counterparts.
  • Knowledge of, and capacity to apply, coordination and information management tools related to DRR/CCA.
  • Experience in development of concept papers, proposals, programme management and programme monitoring.
  • Work experience in a developing country context
  • Experience in emergency response management highly desirable.
  • Experience with the UN and/or NGO.
  • Fluency in English and a second UN language; Local working language of the duty station an asset but not required.
