Project Description:

FHI 360 is seeking applications for the position of Senior Advisor for Community Engagement for an anticipated USAID-funded Key Populations Activity in South Africa. The project will build on current investments made by USAID to reduce risk of HIV transmission among key populations – mainly female sex workers (FSW), and improve their enrollment and retention in care and treatment across the HIV cascade. This project will accelerate the ability of government of South Africa, key population leaders, organizations working with key populations, and private-sector providers to plan and implement services that reduce HIV transmission among key populations and their sexual partners and extend the lives of those already living with HIV.

The Senior Advisor for Community Engagement will provides leadership on KP community interventions that can strengthen HIV prevention, care and treatment across the cascade. S/he will lead and/or oversee community mobilization activities to address structural and social barriers to accessing services and fulfillment of rights of sex workers in the areas of legal literacy; working with police, local leaders and health care workers; assessing the impact of gender norms on the lives of key populations, skills development in community mobilization, and shaping policy. S/he will engage with key stakeholders (e.g. consortium members, grantee organizations, KP community members, etc.) to develop and implement a strategy for mentorship and capacity development in community mobilization, advocacy, gender, service delivery and organizational development.

The following are the minimum qualifications required for the position:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Management Social Work, or Business Administration with a focus on public health, social sciences, or related field; OR a minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in the field of Public Health and HIV;
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in working on community engagement, mobilization, advocacy or related activities with South African key populations (preferably sex worker programs);
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in management of a PEPFAR-funded activity, including program planning, implementation, data use, monitoring and reporting;
  • Demonstrated ability to be able to effectively work with key populations and effectively coordinate with a range of stakeholders including government, community and other civil society organizations, and the private sector;
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of U.S. Government program management regulations; and
  • Demonstrated written, presentation, communication and organizational skills in English.
