The Washington Office (WO), as part of the Partnerships and Liaisons Group (PLG), seeks to structure and manage the relation with key partners such as the World Bank, USAID, Department of State, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, amongst others. The Washington Office will also develop new avenues of collaboration with local partners in support of sustainable development operations in the field, and assists our operational teams on the ground in the management of the portfolio financed by our Washington-based donors.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Head of the Washington Office, the Partnerships Analyst (Intern) will be responsible for:

  1. Assisting the WO in conducting research on donor and market trends;
  2. Assisting the WO in developing programme and project/market analysis reports (e.g. by donor, sector and country);
  3. Supporting the WO in researching and developing partner profiles, as well as associated engagement strategies;
  4. Supporting the WO in monitoring of donor/government tenders to identify possible new programme and project acquisition opportunities.
  5. Supporting the sharing of best practices across the organization through case-studies and reports (which are specific to Washington, DC-based partners).
  6. Assisting with the maintenance and periodic updating of Washington Office intranet information;
  7. Support in the organization of events, conferences, workshops and missions of UNOPS team members to Washington; and
  8. Perform other related duties as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education
  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed (minimum 3 years prior to applying), a Bachelor/Master’s/Ph.D. Degree in a relevant area, preferably in communications, Public Policy, International Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Political Science, or International Relations. 
Language
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, and fluency in written and spoken French is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset.
Experience
  • The candidate should also have extensive knowledge of, and experience with, Microsoft Office programs, particularly with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Knowledge of SharePoint and database software, an asset.
  • The ideal candidate would have a combination of private and international public sector experience, including in the following areas:

    • Strategic planning and development
    • Event management
    • Data analysis
    • Website and intranet experience
    • Client/donor research
    • Business acquisition/development

Contract type, level and duration

Contract type: Internship
Contract duration: 6 months


Interns are responsible for arranging their own travel and securing any necessary visas. This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend of 850 USD per month from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lump sum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, insurance coverage and any necessary visas.
