Background

The purpose of UNDP’s internship programme is to:

  • Provide a framework by which students from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to UNDP offices, where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work assignments;
  • Expose them to an international environment;
  • Expose them to work of the organization with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP goals, principles and activities; and
  • Provide UNDP offices with the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

Under the general supervision of the Director of UNDP’s Country Office in Egypt, the intern is expected to provide support to resource mobilization work of the Office.

Under the general supervision of the Director of UNDP’s Country Office in Egypt, the intern is expected to provide support to resource mobilization work of the Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of staff from UNDP’s Country Office in Egypt, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Conduct primary research on the interests of traditional and new donors to development work in Egypt, identifying potential sources of funding;
  • Conduct primary research on potential private sector donors and partnerships;
  • Support the creation of an internal knowledge management system to support the coordination of the Country Office’s interactions with donors and partners;
  • Support the production of communication material for UNDP projects and programmes in Egypt;
  • Support the planning and preparation of meetings with donors and partners;
  • Provision of support to other areas related to UNDP Egypt’s resource mobilization work, as necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

Required skills, experiences and attributes

  • Applicants from all academic background are accepted for this post.
  • Client orientation and common sense are essential.
  • Strong IT skills, and in particular knowledge of SharePoint, are an advantage.
  • Previous fundraising experiences are an advantage.

Other requirements

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Medical insurance requirements

Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. UNDP will not reimburse the medical insurance of the intern. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.

Applicants for internships must show proof of valid medical insurance for the duty station in which they will intern. For applicants which are neither nationals or residents of the duty station, the insurance must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship duration which:

  • Requires transportation to the home country or country of residence for further treatment;
  • Results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the home country, or country of residence.

Remuneration, insurance and interns’ expenses

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of:

  • The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or
  • The intern, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence through private sources;

Important note:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members.
  • Interns may not be sought or accepted as substitutes for staff to be recruited against authorized posts.
  • Interns may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects that may occur during the internship.
