OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Provision of technical support to all WHO-supported national programmes in the country including monitoring, assessment and reporting on their work.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. To review requests made by national authorities to implement planned activities in JPRM.

2. To provide technical support to national health programmes supported by WHO.

3. To participate in task forces, thematic groups and other similar forums serving WHO technical support to the country as guided and requested by the WR.

4. To liaise and correspond with national authorities to ensure development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of mutually agreed upon action plans for health programmes supported by WHO.

5. To act as resource person for WHO in case of emergencies, including coordination and development of the following tasks\: rapid health assessment, response strategy, WHO emergency plan, interagency cluster plan, project elaboration for donors, technical backstopping for international consultants, technical assistance for execution of national emergency contingency plan, reporting to WHO and to donors.

6. To initiate resource mobilization with foundations, NGOs and international institutions in order to foster partnership between WHO and these organizations and institutions as well as to reinforce technical cooperation at the country level.

7. To review different project proposals submitted to WHO and provide advice to WR on proposed next steps.

8. To provide technical assistance to WHO country team in terms of planning, implementation, assessment and reporting of activities included in the workplans of WHO-supported programmes.

9. To assist WR in reviewing and preparing technical reports, presentations to national workshops, training activities and meetings in the country.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: University degree in Health or Social Sciences
Desirable\: Any other post graduate degree or training in Health systems Development and Health Management

Experience

Essential\: At least five years of experience in the field of Public Health at the national level
Desirable\: At least three years working experience in WHO or UN Agencies

Skills

Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, coordinate and monitor related activities.

Sound knowledge of public health issues.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with national counterparts and country office staff at all levels.

Ability to work under pressure.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at OMR 37,722 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
