Job Description

PCI is seeking energetic, outgoing, bilingual Community Health Workers to conduct surveys in assigned areas of San Diego County. Under the direction of the Deputy Director, six (6) Community Health Surveyors will be hired to collect demographic, economic, and health related data by canvassing neighborhoods, and conducting surveys using a mobile technology-based survey tool. Surveyors will receive up to 8 hours of required training and then go out into the neighborhood in teams of two to administer the survey for up to 30 hours a week for three weeks. Teams of surveyors are asked to carry their own cell phones with them so that they can be in touch with the manager if needed. This position will be at 0.8 FTE, or 30 hours a week, and temporary for a duration of three weeks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Attend mandatory trainings in mid-February. These are paid trainings covering the basics of administering surveys and allowing surveyors to become familiar with the survey form, privacy and security, and implementation protocols.
  • Develop list of survey locations in assigned zip codes in San Diego County.
  • Spend up to six hours per day walking to various locations, and asking community members to participate in our survey.
  • Administer the survey in English and Spanish if community members agree to participate.
  • Submit completed surveys and record locations visited each day.
  • Stay in contact with manager for security purposes and in case questions or concerns arise.
  • Be polite and a good representative of PCI.
  • Identify clients in need of supplementary services.
  • Promote program information and provide and document referrals when appropriate.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Program Managers or Project Director.

Special Parameters/Requirements:

  • Requires travel throughout San Diego County
  • Must be available to work some weekends and evenings
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have access to a working phone (in case of an emergency or questions)

Required Qualifications:**

  • Minimum High School or GED certificate
  • Fluent Spanish and English (read, write, speak)
  • Ability to drive and walk on a regular basis at locations in Central and East San Diego
  • Ability to use mobile technology fluently, including emails, apps, and GPS technology
  • Knowledge about bicultural issues related to Mexican clientele
  • Able to work independently and as a team-player
  • Must be able to talk with families in a respectful and professional way
