Expert (m/f) Communication / Focus: Rice Seed Sector

in Pathein, Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar
 

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until June 30, 2019. The place of work will be Pathein, Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

Quality seed is a key input for increasing crop productivity, and experts generally estimate that 50% of the yield gap can be closed through the use of quality seed of improved varieties. The use of quality seed of well performing rice varieties is one of the key bottlenecks in the rice value chain in Myanmar. Welthungerhilfe and the Wageningen University developed a project in response to this challenge that applies an integrated approach to promot and increase the availability of quality seed for farmers and agricultural businesses in the Ayeyarwady Delta Region.

 

As Expert for Communication you support the Rice Seed Sector in the Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar through outreach to relevant stakeholder by providing a variety of training and education material.

Your responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement and inclusive communications strategy for the project
  • Design and develop agriculture extension materials for illiterate and/or low educated farmers e.g. IEC material for the project
  • Design and create print, audio and visual promotion material (e.g. brochure, leaflets, newsletter, video, podcasts etc.)
  • Support project manager in writing reports, summaries and other documention
  • Design user interfaces for mobile applications as well webpage and social media platforms for outreach
  • Support the development and implemention of branding and marketing strategies for seed businesses
  • Present and represent the project in assigned events and happenings
  • Proactively engage and maintain contacts with relevant stakeholders
  • Give creative and innovative ideas to showcase WHH's work in Myanmar
  • Designing agriculture extension materials for illiterate and/or low educated farmers

Your profile

  • A relevant university or polytechnic qualification, ideally in the field of communications, graphic design, adult education or qualifications that are commensurate with this position
  • Several years of relevant professional experience in the field of communications, preferably in the field of development cooperation
  • Experience in designing agriculture extension materials for illiterate and/or low educated farmers, in designing webpage and social media platforms for outreach and in designing user interface for mobile applications
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Experience in writing reports, case studies, project descriptions, etc
  • Cooperation and team working skills
  • A very good level of written and spoken English
