How can you make a difference? 

You will be joining a team of around 5,000 staff in the West Bank Field Office working to foster the human development of some 800,000 registered Palestine refugees.••

The incumbent of this post is responsible to the Deputy Chief, Field Health Programme and receives technical guidance from Chief, Health Protection & Promotion Division, S/he coordinates common activities with the Field Nursing Services Officer and provides technical guidance to medical and nursing staff in the fields.

The main responsibilities include:

In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the• incumbent:

•         Is responsible for the organization, implementation and evaluation of the Agency's Health Protection and Promotion programme in the Field to which assigned comprising.

(i)        Pre-conception, Pre-natal and Post-natal care and Family Planning services including health, education, counseling and safe use of contraceptive technology.

(ii)      Child health including school health.

•         Undertakes regular visits to UNRWA health centres/ in the Field to ensure that the programme is implemented in accordance with the approved policies, strategies and procedures of the Department of Health; provides technical guidance on maternal health and family planning and school health to medical and nursing staff in the Field to which he/she is assigned;

•         Monitors the Agency's health information system with respect to maternal and child health and family planning services and carries out periodic reviews to assess the efficiency, effectiveness and coverage of the programme;

•         Assists in the organization, implementation and evaluation of special training programmes for the development of human resources in maternal and child health and family planning;

•         Participates in the development and conduct of health services research with respect to the Agency's health protection & promotion programme;

•         Acts as the focal point for coordination of all aspects relating to funded maternal health and family planning projects including monitoring, implementation and reporting on the progress;

•         Maintains close coordination and liaison with government and non-governmental mother and child health and family planning association in the Field;

Conditions of service•

Monthly basic salary JD2008.45 plus an allowance of 1000 NIS payable in JD at UNRWA rate.

Other benefits include:

Provident Fund contribution (7.5 % of basic salary staff member contribution, 15% of basic salary paid by the Agency)

Dependency allowances (if applicable)

30 days of annual leave

Compulsory medical insurance

Additional information

•         Is required to travel frequently within the Field in the performance of his/her duties.

•         Possession of a driving license valid in the country of duty station.

To qualify for this position, you will need:

Education

A university degree in Medicine from a recognized university including an internship of at least twelve-month duration.

Advanced degree in public health.

A license to practice medicine in the country of duty station.

Work

experience

At least seven years professional experience in administration of Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning (MCH/FP) of public health services.

Language(s)

Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and English.

You will also need to demonstrate the following competencies:

•         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in team environment.

•         Very good communication and negotiation skills, sound judgment and demonstrated problem-solving skills.

•         Leadership and ability to organize and implement the health training programmes.

•         Supervisory skills and ability to develop staff.

•         Very good analytical and reporting skills.

•         Computer skills; especially programmes used by UNRWA and health statistical applications.

•         Ability to work under pressure and cope with heavy workload.
