Background Information - Management Support Centre (MSC)

The UNOPS Management Support Centre (MSC) acts as the technical front office and works in close collaboration with the regions and partners on operationalizing best practices, towards global and other tailored agreements around management services.

MSC gains insights into specific needs of partners, through technical experts, in the areas of Project management, Infrastructure, Administration, Procurement, Human Resources and Financial management services, and tailors solutions at the corporate level, ensuring appropriate skills, products and services can be sourced, internally and externally, to support such engagements.

MSC supports the maintenance of global engagements with partners, in close coordination with regions and practices, and provides advice on communication and branding of such services.

MSC has the following key responsibilities:

At Corporate level:

·       Lead the development of the strategic focus on Management Services and contributes to positioning UNOPS as the global partner in the provision of Management Services to partners

·       Oversee and house the hosting strategy, develop hosting frameworks to manage business and risks, and ensure new potential hosted entity engagements are reviewed as per corporate standards.

·       Oversee and house the global agreements with global partners on management services and maintain a steady line of communication with the partners on service performance

At the Regional level:        

·       Support the regions with packaging of management solutions as a service line to be provided to partners, whether as local partners or under global partnership agreements.

·       Support the Regions with hosted entities Management Services, including assessing global operational risk and leading corporate knowledge management on the topic.

Background Information - Job-specific

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Director, Management Support Centre, the Business Market Analyst scans and analyzes the market either as a response to a specific need, or pro-actively to identify opportunities which support the business development efforts of MSC in the provision of management services to existing and potential partners.

The Business Market Specialist works in close collaboration with other team members within MSC, and with other teams in the regions and HQ to ensure a cross-Operations approach and successful performance.

Functional Responsibilities

The Business Market Specialist will lead the regular assessments of the cross-operational management services value add among existing and potential partners and markets, and contribute to the design, planning and implementation of market interventions based on the assessments, as well as the monitoring of results.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake data collection on key market potential
  • Conduct market systems analysis in selected markets
  • Address the critical constraints in the respective value chains and present strategic interventions based on thorough analysis of the value chain, and enabling environment
  • Design Intervention Plans and Concept Notes at the culmination of each market systems analysis to address the priority constraints
  • Work closely with the Business Technical Specialists in the design of market interventions and roll out of activities, liaising with appropriate stakeholders
  • Suggest entry points with potential partners based on individual needs analysis
  • Develop supporting analysis for each intervention, targets and monitors
  • Maintain market analysis reports for users to access and refer to as a resource, especially by the Business Technical Specialists
  • Conduct and participate in meetings with stakeholders
  • Contribute to the build-up of the corporate management services catalogue
  • Contribute to the preparation of quotations for delivery of management services 
Other general corporate responsibilities: Ensures facilitation and promotion of knowledge building and knowledge sharing, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Compilation and implementation of training for operations/ programme personnel
  • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Synthesis of lessons learnt and best practices in administration.
Takes control over his/her own performance management and career development 

Education

  • Minimum High School diploma is required;
  • A University degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in a relevant field is desired and can compensate for the relevant professional experience;

Experience

  • 5 years of relevant experience in professional writing or editing, market research, marketing or similar, with exposure to international development;
  • Certification in marketing, market research, professional writing, or similar relevant areas is preferred;
  • Experience in the field (non-HQs) is a strong asset;
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral); 
  • Knowledge of UNOPS operations is an asset

Languages

  • Fluency in written and oral English is required. 
  • Knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic is an asset.
