Context:

Under the direct supervision of the Spokesperson/Head, Media and Communication Division (MCD), in collaboration with the Director of DOE, the successful candidate will be responsible in contributing to the preparation and dissemination of communications for the Department of Operations and Emergencies (DOE) to promote IOM and raise awareness of migration issues in emergency and crisis contexts.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Gather, prepare and disseminate public information on DOE activities, both in writing and verbally.

2. Write, edit and produce public information material for IOM’s bi-weekly press briefing notes, regular newsletters, website and social media in clear and concise English. 3. Coordinate with DOE staff at Headquarters (HQs) and in the field on media, public information, event management and visibility issues.

4. Contribute to the development and relaunch of the DOE Portal as part of on the global website iom.int.

Page 1 / 45. Support promotion of IOM global campaigns ‘I am a Migrant’ and UN-led ‘Together’ campaign, including coordination with United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) and other UN agencies.

6. Support external communications from IOM missions to ensure high donor visibility. 7. Develop and implement content to showcase DOE activities at external events. 8. Collaborate with field staff to produce content in the form of human interest stories from the field, photographs and video clips for an international audience.

9. Collaborate in the development and dissemination of appropriate awareness raising, communicating with communities and media resources for crisis-affected communities in the specific country context.

10. Contribute to the timely and efficient publication and distribution of media content on the global website iom.int, country website and via other IOM media channels, websites, social media etc.

11. Contribute to IOM’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other online networks through contributions on DOE activities and events.

12. Support management of the Director of Operations and Emergencies’ Twitter account, as well as other relevant social media accounts.

13. Support live Twitter feed outputs during DOE high-level events.

14. Support appropriate gender awareness in all DOE communications.

15. Contribute to the development and strengthening links with international and local media to promote DOE’s work and reputation.

Engage as needed at DOE events that contribute to IOM’s visibility.

17. Liaise with media counterparts in governmental and non-governmental partner agencies. Participate in interagency media and communication working groups to encourage information flow and community engagement activities across agencies and to develop complementary media strategies.

18. Support staff training particularly media and communications staff, in communications and specifically humanitarian communications best practices both virtually and in person. 19. Monitor media and highlight trending humanitarian-related topics to relevant DOE staff both in HQs and the field.

20. Perform such other MCD-related duties as may be assigned by the Director of DOE and Director of Media and Communications in Geneva.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience. Page 2 / 4Experience

• Experience in writing and editing in an international journalism and public information; • Demonstrated high competency as a writer, editor in English;

• Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media and video production; • Familiarity with international organizations.

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage. Desirable Competencies:

Other:
