UNICEF Cambodia is looking for national interns to join our Education Section for a period of 3-6 months in 2018. UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund, which has more than 10,000 staff members working in 190 countries and territories around the world. UNICEF began providing assistance to Cambodia in 1952 and has been working since then to improve the wellbeing of Cambodian children. The UNICEF Cambodia Country Office team is now seeking the support of an intern for a period of 3-6 months. Internships with the UNICEF Cambodia office allow individuals an opportunity to advance their understanding of and contribute to UNICEF’s work in-country. In doing, individuals can build professional experience in the areas of health/nutrition, WASH, social protection, education or child protection and knowledge of the key issues affecting Cambodia’s children.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Chief of Education, and in coordination with the education section, the intern will:

  • In collaboration with other team members conduct a literature review of research on disadvantaged children within the private education sector (basic education), including those attending Islamic, Monastic and ‘floating’ schools. The literature review may be underpinned by field work;
  • After assisting to complete the literature review, identify opportunities for UNICEF education programme engagement in supporting disadvantaged children within the private sector;
  • Present the findings of the literature review and recommendations to the UNICEF Country Office;
  • Support in the development of communications materials for internal and external audiences, as well as for donor reporting connected to key programmes including: capacity development, multilingual education, inclusive education, WASH in schools, positive discipline in schools, school scholarships and education in emergencies;
  • Support in the development of communications materials, including human interest stories for UNICEF’s blog and social media, as well as for donor reporting on a range of work areas, such as inclusive education, positive discipline; and
  • Perform other relevant duties in support of the education team, as required.

To qualify as an intern for every child you will have…

  • Enrolled in or a graduate of a Bachelor or Master’s Degree programme in an education-related field, social sciences or development studies;
  • A strong understanding of current international development issues especially in education;
  • Familiarity with child rights principles;
  • At least 12 months of professional work experience at sub-national, national or international levels in the field of education;
  • Experience working in the UN or other international development organization would be an asset; and

Duration of the assignment

  • Desired role period is 3-6 months. The intern is expected to work Monday - Friday (full time). Please clearly indicate your availability in your application.

Conditions of the Internship:

Interns with UNICEF may be remunerated with a living allowance, depending on the specific conditions. Preferably the costs associated to be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements to take on this assignment.
