The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

The UNICEF Internship Program offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; and
  • Be proficient in English, and Arabic. Professional writing skills in both languages is necessary.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records

Purpose of the Internship

The intern will be based in UNICEFs Regional Office in Amman and works under the direct supervision of the Regional Adviser for ADAP and VIH to accomplish the following:

  1. Clear TOR for RAYAG including a plan for sustaining RAYAG beyond the UN:NGO and UNIATTTYP support.
  1. Developing a transparent process of identifying national and regional networks of adolescents and youth and nominating members to represent them in the RAYAG.
  2. Update the mapping of the national and regional networks of adolescents and youth.
  3. Contact the national and regional networks of adolescents and youth.
  4. Support the RAYAG members to identify areas of technical support and capacity gaps.
  5. Map possible partnerships to support the capacity development of RAYAG members
  6. Support capacity development on advocacy, communication and documentation of RAYAG members including establishing a feedback loop with the national and regional networks of adolescents and youth
  7. Link RAYAG and national and regional networks of adolescents and youth with opportunities in areas such as social participation, social and civic engagement, trainings, advocacy at national and regional levels.
  8. Support RAYAG and PAR researchers to develop and implement social media strategy for engagement with young members including maintaining and developing facebook/other online group for the PAR researchers and the RAYAB members.
  9. Support the establishment and populate the adolescent and youth observatory in partnership with the MENA regional UN:NGO group, the UNIATTYP and the regional adolescent and youth advisory groups.

 

 

Qualifications:  

  • A first-level university degree in social sciences, education, development, social/public policy, public health or related field or a University student enrolled in the final phase of international development, social or political science, anthropology or other related and relevant field.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in research methods.
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
  • Effective communicator of verbal and written concepts in English to regional and international audiences.
  • Knowledge of Adolescent Development and Participation issues.
  • Experience in adolescent and youth programmes and in the MENA region is an asset.
  • Ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and to produce results on time.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solving oriented, in a multi-cultural environment.

Start date

The internship is available as of 25 February, 2018. It is for a period of 15 weeks.
