Title:                           Senior Program Officer

Reports to:                 Managing Director

Location:                    Cambridge, MA 

Classification:            Full-time, salaried (exempt)

Position Summary

The Senior Program Officer provides leadership and oversight for planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of RefugePoint initiatives. In particular, the Officer works directly with the Urban Refugee Program in Kenya, the Self-Reliance Community of Practice, and growing efforts to build capacity and expand impact through training, technical assistance and program expansion. The Senior Program Officer reports to the Managing Director and works closely with the Chief Strategy Officer, Kenya Country Director, and other staff.  As requested, the Senior Program Officer will represent RefugePoint to external audiences at key fora.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

·       Supports planning, implementation, and overall management of program activities

·       Reinforces RefugePoint’s organizational culture, program model and approach in core work and all replication and expansion efforts

·       Strengthens infrastructure, practices, and procedures for program efficiency and effectiveness

·       Engages in assessment activities to identify opportunities for increasing the impact of direct services, field building and systems change interventions

·       Builds capacity for the implementation and expansion of RefugePoint programs, ensuring adherence to quality standards

 

Partnership Building, Networking and Collaboration (internal and external)

·       Works as member of the RefugePoint team for maximum coordination and integration and contributes to communications, finance and administration, and fundraising (grant applications, events, marketing/promotion, etc.) activities in accordance with identified priorities

·       Supports and expands partnership building, networking, and collaborative efforts among academic, program, philanthropic and other partners

Documentation, Communication, and Reporting

·       Leads efforts to manage the documentation of agency programs (eg. description of model and approaches, key accomplishments, case studies, etc)

·       Writes content for reports, grant applications, newsletters, website, etc.) for diverse audiences and purposes, 

Learning, Knowledge and Data Management

·       Strengthens learning and knowledge management systems for continuous program and staff improvement

·       Maintains familiarity with current trends and practices and identifies opportunities for piloting new interventions

·       Leads monitoring, learning and evaluation efforts to improve program quality and increase impact

·       Provides oversight for thorough and accurate data management, analysis, and reporting

Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

●      Master’s degree in related field of study preferred, bachelor’s degree required;

●      At least six years’ experience nonprofit humanitarian work, international work experience highly preferred;

●      Prior work with refugee-focused organizations highly preferred; work involving refugee livelihoods and self-reliance preferred;

●      Superior writing ability and ability to synthesize and distill complex information;

●      Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills;

●      English language fluency required;

●      Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, maintaining flexibility and attention-to-detail;

●      Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and cloud-computing platforms;

●      Ability to travel internationally; and

●      Willingness and flexibility to work early mornings (due to the time difference with field operations) and occasional evenings.
