The Chief, Communications for Development (C4D) reports to the Deputy Representative for general guidance and direction. The Chief, C4D will be responsible for developing a systematic, planned, evidence-based strategy and process for C4D as an integral part of program development, planning and implementation to promote measurable behavioral and social change/mobilization through communication, engagement, empowerment and participation of stakeholders, partners constituents, communities and civil society to achieve successful and sustainable concrete (program/project) results on children’s rights, survival and well-being in the country.

Being a cross-cutting discipline, the Communication for Development (C4D) Unit engages and work to ensure that capacities of communities, stakeholders and beneficiaries are strengthened to participate actively in collective action to increase demand for and utilization of services, adoption of optimal caregiving/wellbeing practices, abandonment of harmful social norms (e.g. Child Marriage, FGMC, Open Defecation) and humanitarian action by 2019

How can you make a difference?

The Chief, Communications for Development (C4D) reports to the Deputy Representative for general guidance and direction. The Chief, C4D will be responsible for developing a systematic, planned, evidence-based strategy and process for C4D as an integral part of program development, planning and implementation to promote measurable behavioral and social change/mobilization through communication, engagement, empowerment and participation of stakeholders, partners constituents, communities and civil society to achieve successful and sustainable concrete (program/project) results on children’s rights, survival and well-being in the country. To fulfill above, the Chief will perform these key functions:

  1. Support to strategy design and development of C4D activities;
  2. Implementation of C4D activities;
  3. Technical and operational support;
  4. Advocacy, networking and partnership building;
  5. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building.

To qualify as a/an [champion or advocate] for every child you will have…

  • An Advanced University degree in social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations or other related social science field is required;                                                                                                    
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in areas of social development program planning, communications and public advocacy and/or related areas at the international and/or large organization some of which preferably were served in a developing country is required;                                                                                                                                                                  
  • Developing country work experience is required and familiarity with emergency is considered an asset;
  • Relevant experience in related areas in a UN system agency or organization is an asset;
  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
