Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UN Environment - West Asia Office (WAO), established in Manama, Bahrain, and is one of the UN Environment’s six regional offices. It coordinates UN Environment’s Programme of Work in West Asia, providing the link between UN Environment’s Divisions and the countries of the region. Hence, UN Environment/WAO main objective is to develop relevant programmes to respond to the needs of the region, with a focus on enabling member states to achieve their visions for sustainable development.

The OzonAction Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) of UN Environment is the program mandated for clearinghouse functions and roles within the implementation of the Montreal Protocol (Ozone Layer protection treaty) in addition to its projects implementation mandate as one of the four UN agencies that operate under the Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol. The international partnerships with refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) associations/organizations is one of the core elements for the delivery of the OzonAction/CAP program and it’s managed by the partnerships coordinator who is based within the West Asia CAP team.

Within the OzonAction work plan, CAP is strategizing the partnerships and cooperating relationships with RAC associations/organizations to ensure providing the required support with special focus on the RSS (Refrigeration Servicing Sector) as the main consuming sector in most of A5 countries (developing countries) for ozone depleting substances and their alternatives. The engineering and specialized societies in West Asia, and the Arab region, are also not well connected with the environmental platforms due to lack coordination despite the intersected portfolios and programs. The task under this internship is to start mapping the RAC associations/organizations in A5 countries with specific focus on West Asia and the Arab region.

- The internship is UNPAID and fulltime
Travel arrangements, including visa and living (accommodation) expenses are the responsibility of the selected intern.
Interns work 35-40 hours per week under the supervision of the officer to whom assigned.
