Under the overall orientation, guidance and supervision of the Representative, the Deputy Representative supports the overall management of the Country Office. S/He is responsible for coordinating closely with the different programme sections on all phases of the Country Programme from formulation to delivery of results in accordance with the UNICEF Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework, ethics and integrity.

How can you make a difference?

Under the overall orientation, guidance and supervision of the Representative, the Deputy Representative supports the overall management of the Country Office. S/He is responsible for coordinating closely with the different programme sections on all phases of the Country Programme from formulation to delivery of results in accordance with the UNICEF Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework, ethics and integrity.

The Deputy Representative will also promote and oversee integrated programming across sectors, with a focus on:

1. Early childhood development
2. Adolescents, with a focus on girls
3. Equity and inclusive development

In addition to programme sections, the Deputy Representative will also work closely with:

  • The Communication for Development team in promoting behavior change and influencing social norms; and
  • The Monitoring & Evaluation team in monitoring results for children, with a focus on the most vulnerable.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

  • An Advanced University Degree in social sciences, international relations, government and public relations, public or social policy, sociology, social or community development or other related fields, is required.
  • A minimum of eight years of professional development experience that combines technical and managerial leadership in development cooperation at the international level, some of which served in a developing countries, is required. Relevant professional experience in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
  • Experience in building strategic partnerships and mobilizing resources is desirable;
  • Knowledge of social policy and social protection is desirable; 
  • Experience in an emergency or humanitarian context is an asset.
