UN-Water is the United Nations inter-agency collaboration mechanism on all freshwater related issues including sanitation. UN-Water is comprised of 31 Members from the United Nations system and 39 international Partners. Through UN-Water the United Nations act as "One UN" on water related issues. The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is the legal and administrative host of the UN-Water Inter-Agency Trust Fund.

UN-Water’s needs for graphic design for digital and print products relate to 1) corporate and technical communications through its website, reports, social and traditional media, participation in international events and publications; 2) the World Water Day campaigns on a different water-related issue every year through a dedicated website with campaign material, social and traditional media, and rich promotional and information material of all kinds; 3) the World Toilet Day campaigns through a dedicated website with campaign material, social and traditional media, and rich promotional and information material of all kinds; 4) other international observances through dedicated websites and material.


Functional Responsibilities

Successfully lead and implement all of UN-Water's graphic design work ranging from corporate and technical material to campaign material for World Water Day, World Toilet Day and other international observances.

Particular responsibilities for the incumbent include:

Corporate design

  • Ensure graphic and brand consistency across all UN-Water's corporate products including stationary, meeting reports, business cards, graphic guidelines.
  • Effectively lay out all of UN-Water's corporate reports as needed.
  • Effectively lay out the UN-Water SDG 6 Synthesis Report 2018 on Water and Sanitation.
  • Work with Digital and Community Specialist to ensure a graphic consistency for UN-Water's corporate identity across all digital channels.
  • Create infographic/films or other design related material illustrating UN-Water and the water and sanitation cause
  • Assist with graphic material for the newsfeed
  • Assist in rendering powerpoints/keynotes graphically relevant
  • Create special material for events such as flyers, posters, bunting, roll-ups etc
  • Perform corporate designs needs as needed.

Technical design

  • Lay out reports in liaison with technical experts
  • Look for photos to illustrate texts
  • Create graphic illustrations as needed for technical issues and reports
  • Create graphs, charts and maps to accompany text
  • Modify existing material as needed

Digital communications

  • Ensure graphic consistency on all of UN-Water's digital channels
  • Work with Digital and Community Specialist to implement a visual strategy across social media channels
  • Create and adapt graphic material for social media as needed

Campaign communications

  • Together with the Communications Manager create a graphic concepts of UN-Water's campaigns ( World Toilet Day; World Water Day; Water Action Decade) in line with the yearly theme and the brand building of the campaigns
  • Create promotional material such as posters in several languages, adaptation of logo in six languages, t-shirts, buttons, pins, stickers, tattoes etc
  • Develop banners, stickers, and guidelines 
  • Lay out facts and figures guides
  • Create film concepts for the campaigns
  • Produce films to illustrate the campaigns and the themes.
  • Develop promotional materials and adapt to several languages – including acquisition of photos.
  • Work with the Communications Manager to propose engagement activities.
  • Design facts and figures and guidelines for the campaign.
  • Produce, improve or edit artworks, photos, charts, posters, exhibition banners, web banners, buttons and other graphic elements;

Perform other related duties as required.


Education

  • Advanced University Degree in graphic design, communications or in related fields
  • University Degree (bachelor degree / first level) with a combination of 2 additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree.

Experience

Minimum five years with master's degree or seven years after bachelor's degree providing successful graphic design services including experience in brand building. 

Languages

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French or other UN language is desirable.

  • Knowledge of graphic softwares such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

Contract type: International Individual Contractor Agreement (I - ICA)

Contract duration: One year initially (Retainer contract)
