SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development programmers concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

The Surgical specialist is responsible to diagnose and check OPD and IPD patients, and complete patients related filings, cooperate and coordinate with other health facility staff in the health facility related issues.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Graduated from recognized university as surgical specialist
  • At least 4 years’ work experience in relevant field.
  • Good communication skills (written and spoken) of Pashto, Dari & English
  • Demonstrated skills in health management, Ability to work effectively as part of a team 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good supervisory, leadership and trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to support colleagues and provide/receive constructive feedback
  • Being an Afghan citizen

Main Responsibilities:

  • OPD of surgical patients in the health Facility
  • Proper checking of patients for diagnosis & completing of patient files
  • Will be active member of emergency and disaster committee of the health facility.
  • Do surgeries according to the BPHS guidelines of MoPH
  • Do a rounds/visits of patients in the surgical ward
  • Prepare monthly conference topic for the health facility staff
  • To control and supervise nurses in the related ward
  • To help junior staff for provision of quality internal medicine care according to the national protocols and guidelines
  • Provide daily case presentation during the round and morning report to the junior staff.
  • Proper filling of tally sheets and registration for preparing the reports.
  • Do Night duty according to the rules and regulation
  • Actively participate in the trainings arranged by the relevant authorities.
  • Use and adopt proper uniform of the MoPH
  • Responsible for hygiene of the surgical ward
  • To be on time in the duty in the official working hours
  • Actively participate in the morning reports
  • Study and learn national guidelines of MoPH
  • Maintain good cooperative good relation with all staff of the health facility
  • Any other task assigned by the line manager
