The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

The UNICEF Internship Program offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; and
  • Be proficient in English, and Arabic. Professional writing skills in both languages is necessary.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records

Purpose of the Internship

The intern will be based in UNICEFs Regional Office in Amman and works under the direct supervision of the Regional Adviser for ADAP and VIH to accomplish the following:

  1. Update the documentation on good and promising practices using the UNIATTYP (UNEG guided framework) to identify and document transferrable good practices on adolescent and youth programming in areas relevant to MENA (https://goodpracticessite.wordpress.com/). Areas for updating the documentation will include (but not limited to):
    1. Youth employment including gender friendly employment interventions (Tangible, innovative and successful private sector partnerships that reflect real results on the ground for adolescents and youth
    2. Adolescent and youth engagement across sectors and engagement through existing platforms
    3. Interventions which demonstrate the positive ways in which young people are contributing to society across the region
    4. Interventions which successfully address gender-based barriers to adolescent and youth wellbeing
    5. Systematic adolescent and youth systematic engagement in adolescent and youth programmes
  2. The intern will also explore the existing partnerships and institutions that implement adolescent programming  to identify partners that can support countries in scaling up or replicating the practices in the MENA Context.

Qualifications:  

  • A first-level university degree in social sciences, education, development, social/public policy, public health or related field or a University student enrolled in the final phase of international development, social or political science, anthropology or other related and relevant field.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in research methods.
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
  • Effective communicator of verbal and written concepts in English to regional and international audiences.
  • Knowledge of Adolescent Development and Participation issues.
  • Experience in adolescent and youth programmes and in the MENA region is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solving oriented, in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to quickly understand instructions, asks for clarification when needed, adapt and to produce results on time.

Start date

The internship is available as of June 1, 2018. It is for a period of 15 weeks.
