Background

UNDP is the UN’s global development network advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.  The Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) will require a rethink of how our societies and economies are organised, how we can eradicate poverty, inequity and how we can adopt sustainable patterns of production and consumption.

To achieve the SDGs, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation (DNP) of Thailand in partnership with UNDP, IUCN, TRAFFIC and TRACE has developed a 5- years project on “Combatting Illegal Wildlife Trade, focusing on Ivory, Rhino Horn, tiger, and Pangolins in Thailand” with the support of USD 4.5 million from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Cycle 6.  This is a UNDP supported national project under the ‘Global Partnership on Wildlife Conservation and Crime Prevention for Sustainable Development” led by the World Bank with the goal to strengthen the capacity of and enhance collaboration between enforcement agencies and reduce demand in illegal wildlife trade through a targeted awareness campaign in order to reduce trafficking of wildlife (i.e. tiger, pangolin, rhino and elephant) and their products in Thailand.
