Commodity Officer (m/f)

in Nyamlel, South Sudan

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until September 30, 2018. There are good prospects for an extension. The place of work will be Nyamlel, South Sudan.

This is a mid-level supervisory role to ensure proper documentation and accountability of all receipt, warehousing, delivery and distribution of food commodities entrusted to Welthungerhilfe in South Sudan by the donors.

Your responsibilities

  • Identify needs in program design and planning with WFP and other partners
  • Calculate monthly food requirements for the designated area / districts / camps and preparation of distribution and food delivery plans
  • Ensure availability of safe and suitable storage capacity at Payam / county level and tracks for internal delivery of commodities from EDPs to FDPs
  • Work with Commodity Manager to ensure timely procurement and availability of all equipment and materials
  • Attend county level coordination meetings and represent Welthungerhilfe actively in any food and NFI committees
  • Supervise warehouse operations
  • Work with commodities staff, WFP, counterparts and the community to improve targeting efficiency
  • Through proper planning and documentation of the registration process, ensure that the most vulnerable members of the community are porperly targeted and protected
  • Ensure timely reporting in line with the standards of Welthungerhilfe and the donors

Your profile

  • A university degree, for example in International Development Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, Management, Geography or Agricultural Sciences
  • At least 4 years experience in a related field preferably in community mobilization, commodity programming, management and logistics
  • Relevant knowledge of German, European and UN donor environment
  • Coordination and organisational skills - even under a heavy workload
  • Ability to perform field assignments and willingness to travel for long periods of time in difficult terrain, under harsh and demanding conditions
  • Ability to engage in active and sensitive communication with employees and contacts in a very diverse environment
  • Experience in security/crisis management
  • A good command of English, both spoken and written
