Background

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Security Adviser (SA) and according to the
SOP, the Operations Assistant is responsible for monitoring UN activities and missions and
providing relevant and accurate information to DSS related to security and operations security.
The Operations Assistant promotes a client oriented approach consistent with the rules and
regulations of the Department of Safety and Security.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keeps accurate registries and adheres to established procedures;
  • Provides assistance to UN personnel and registers events accordingly;
  • Requests support from local authorities in case of incident;
  • Answers telephone and radio calls;
  • Reports immediately any technical issue to the SA or the LSA/LSAA;
  • Keeps a daily mission log and a chronological activity log;
  • Files documents and reports;
  • Monitors the local news network and informs the SA of any security related situation.
  • Prepares a relevant news report and distributes it to the UNS, prior authorization;
  • Fills formats of security events related to incidents occurred to UN personnel;
  • Performs all other duties related as directed by the SA;
  • Prepares reports as directed by UNDSS;
  • Performs radio checks with base stations, Protección Civil and Policía de Chacao;
  • Assists in monitoring UN personnel compliance with administrative and operational
  • procedures established by UNDSS;
  • Performs other duties established by the UN.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Secondary education.

Experience:

3 years of experience working as radio operator, operations assistant or communications assistant.

Language Requirements:

Spanish. English is an asset.
