Background

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Technical Advisor Ecosystems and Climate Change, the Technical Assistant will act as an advisor to the UNDP Country Office and national counterparts with regards to the Agenda 2030 and SDGs, provide strategic inputs in favor of the mainstreaming of the SDGs in UNDP’s programming.

The Technical Assistant works in close collaboration with the Programme team, programme staff in other UN Agencies, UNDP HQs staff, Government, private sector, academia and civil society.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of key functions:

  1. Identify opportunities to establish and strengthen partnerships with civil society, academia, private and public sector, to promote innovative solutions that contribute to the mainstreaming of the SDGs and development of integrated programming solutions in the UNDP country programming and country development planning, , focusing on the achievement of the following results:
    • Advise on making explicit contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals through UNDP programmes and projects, including through technical support to the definition of Theories of Change and Results Frameworks related to the Governance, Poverty Reduction and Environment practice areas;
    • Support design of integrated programming solutions, with contributions to multiple SDGs;
    • In coordination with UNDP Programme Officers, provide technical advice to external partners (government, civil society and private sector) in the mainstreaming of SDGs in development and results-based planning, considering national development priorities.
    • Identifies and promotes partnerships– including related to resource mobilization – with civil society and the private sector around Agenda 2030, including through support to new proposal development.
  1. Provides guidance for optimizing collaboration, integration and partnerships with other UN Agencies in Peru around Agenda 2030 and country development priorities, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
  • Advise on how UNDP can most effectively partner with other United Nations Agencies in Peru to support countries in the implementation of SDGs, including through joint programming;
  • Participate in UN-wide and development partner coordination spaces on SDGs, such as the UNDAF Result #3 working group;
  • Identify opportunities for south-south collaboration;
  • Provide strategic guidance of UNDP CO-supported knowledge products and support communications message development, to ensure adequate integration of Agenda 2030;
  1. Facilitates information exchange, collaboration and innovation in programming solutions to address complex development problems:
  • Identify innovation opportunities in current programming in Peru and in the region, and proactively pursue adaptation and application to UNDP programmes across thematic areas.
  • Facilitate staff capacity development and knowledge sharing regarding innovation and Agenda 2030; organize group learning opportunities through identification of webinars, presentations, external speakers, etc.
  • Support SDG-related corporate planning and reporting at the UNDP CO level.
  • Organizes UNDP key events such as Global Good Summit, Hackatons and other seen as strategic for the acceleration of SDG implementation and to foster use of new and innovative technologies to increase Project and Programmes´  impacts
  • Contribute to the operationalization of knowledge management systems within the UNDP Country Office, and accessible to partners and other stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience

EDUCATION:

  • Undergraduate degree required in relevant field – economics, policy, communications, environmental sciences or related field; Desirable Master’s Degree preferred in political or social sciences or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in corporate/ strategic communication

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience relevant to the position.
  • Experience in promoting innovation and collaboration among colleagues.
  • Experience in verbal and written communications with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing partnerships with private, public sector and civil society organizations.
  • Experience in training and facilitation of diverse groups.

LANGUAJE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish
