Under the guidance of the Chief of Field Office and Communication for Development Specialist/Provincial Polio Team Lead NOC and with regular input and strategic direction from the Communication Specialist in Country Office and the Chief, Polio Section, responsible for the development, planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of media and advocacy strategies at the provincial level in support of polio eradication in Pakistan. To assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the media engagement and mass media strategy to promote polio vaccination particularly in Balochistan; a high-risk area for polio eradication and amongst high risk populations of Pakistan.

To assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the media engagement and mass media strategy to promote polio vaccination particularly in Balochistan; a high-risk area for polio eradication and amongst high risk populations of Pakistan.

How can you make a difference?

  1. Provides technical support to the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre in support external communications, including the production of appropriate media materials such as briefing kits, media releases, background notes, etc. Finds opportunities for media outlets to support Government of Pakistan led programme. Manages media queries related to the Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) and coordinates with partners on the sharing of information and data on polio epidemiology, eradication initiatives and programme implementation with the media.
  2. Supports the implementation of media crisis strategy in relation to polio eradication issues and partners in the PEI. Ensures that partners in the PEI are equipped with appropriate tools and materials to respond to and mitigate negative media coverage (e.g. Q&As, holding lines, fact sheets, key messages).
  3. Monitors and evaluates the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials to target audiences, and participates in the evaluation of their impact. Provides feedback to the Communications for Development Specialist/Provincial Polio Team Lead and UNICEF Chief Polio Eradication Unit on the use and appropriateness of corporate publications and advocacy materials.
  4. Pitches stories on polio eradication, including success and challenges, to international and national media in line with PEI priorities. Identifies and researches story and media opportunities and develops media materials (text, photos, video, etc.) about polio. Coordinates and leads media visits to sites relevant to the PEI, especially during anti-polio campaign dates.
  5. Conceptualizes, supervises and ensure quality control of the d production of advocacy and communication materials, media packages for communicating UNICEF polio programme and PEI messages for media, web and social media, events, campaigns etc. and oversees the qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, translation, review of layouts and graphic design). 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
  • At least two years progressively responsible professional work experience in media/communications at national or sub-national level, with practical experience in media/communication strategy development. Knowledge of development sector is an asset.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Urdu. Knowledge of Pashto and other local languages is an asset.
