The role of the Accountant is to prepare donor reports and statement of accounts, in accordance with UNICEF's accounting policies, Financial Regulations and Rules, as well as the UN Common Accounting Standards.

How you can make a difference...

Under the general supervision of the Accountant, the position holder will prepare donor reports and statements of account and will review financial transactions in VISION to ensure completeness and accuracy of donor reports and financial statements. The post carries out such functions in accordance with UNICEF's accounting policies and procedures, the UNICEF Financial Regulations and Rules and the UN Common Accounting Standards.

Join the Grants Management and Reporting Unit to be directly responsible or support the following team initiatives:

Prepare detailed and timely interim and final donor statements of account and cumulative summaries for review by the Accountant.

  • Monitor completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of financial transactions in VISION for the assigned donors to ensure that donor statements and other reports are prepared correctly and reflect the financial data as at specific cut-off dates.
  • Review and analyse financial transactions in VISION for assigned donors taking note of abnormal balances, possible discrepancies, closure of expired funds, etc., process accounting adjustments, and/or take corrective action as necessary.
  • Provide technical support and advice to field offices and other HQ offices on accounting matters that have donor financial reporting implications.
  • Review unique requirements of certain donors and recommend options for providing donors with customized reports within established guidelines.
  • Provide policy coordination support/guidance to HQ, RO and CO on structuring and reporting on joint/pooled programmes.  Liaise with UN Agencies providing funding to UNICEF via joint/pooled funding programmes to ensure efficient structuring and reporting.
  • Provide inputs for system enhancements and perform other related duties as required

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...

  • Professional Accounting or Auditing Qualification (such as Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant or equivalent) or an Advanced degree in accounting or a related field (financial management and auditing). Preference will be given to holders of professional accounting qualifications or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant hands-on work experience in Accounting or a directly-related field(s) is required .
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.

This position is classified as "rotational" which means the incumbent is expected to rotate to another duty station upon completion of their tour of duty.
