Operating since 2004 in Lebanon, DRC has addressed the needs and rights of vulnerable populations, working initially with Palestinian refugees (since 2004), Iraqi refugees (2007-2010), Lebanese IDPs (during the 2006 conflict), migrant domestic workers (since 2009) and, since 2011, responding to the Syrian refugee crisis.  
DRC Lebanon is currently delivering programming in protection, housing, infrastructure, basic assistance, livelihoods, and community development interventions. This myriad programming seeks to address the immediate needs of displaced populations and concurrently support vulnerable host populations. DRC has five offices spread throughout Lebanon in, Beirut, the Bekaa, Saida, Tripoli and Qobayat.

 

About the job 

The role of the English Literacy Trainer is to provide the trainees with the required English language knowledge, follow up attendance, assess learning effectiveness, and perform daily tasks. Target Audience: Vulnerable beneficiaries selected by DRC, mixed classes of Youth and Adults (18-50 years old), Lebanese and Syrians, Male and Female.

 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Provide English Literacy training for the trainees as per the developed curriculum. 

• Implement trainee –centered teaching methods, and diverse teaching techniques to encourage participation. 
• Prepare a 30 hours’ curriculum and Syllabus that satisfy the objective of include building conversational, reading and writing skills.  
• Ensure that the lessons are planned and delivered in a highly participative and interactive manner and responsive to the request and suggestions of the students; 
• Create lesson plans, presentations, visual aids and other training materials as required stating the objectives of each method used and respecting the developed curriculum. 
• Prepare classroom and coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts. 
• Consistently keep a record of attendance and participation of trainees and track repetitive absence to report it to DRC Livelihood staff.  
• Develop a midterm and a final exam to evaluate the learning effectiveness.  
• Provide weekly reports to measure progress, identify barriers to learning and recommend action to overcome barriers, provide weekly work plan to the Livelihoods staff. 
 
About you 
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Bachelor Degree or vocational equivalent. Moreover, we also expect the following:

 

Required  

• Experience in working with the local environment, Minimum of 1-year experience teaching in NGOs. 
• Demonstrate understanding of working with vulnerable trainees, ability to respect the participants’ culture and beliefs and the ability to treat them all equally

We offer 

Contract length: until 31 May 2018, part time (3 or 4 days per week) for a total period of 35 hours 
Level: Trainer 
Salary: 10 USD/hour 
Duty Station: Tripoli 
Start date: March 2018
