ABOUT US

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an International non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. The Danish Demining Group (DDG) is the mine action and armed violence reduction unit within DRC and focuses on freeing communities from the fear of mines, explosive remnants of war and armed violence. 

Danish Demining Group has been operational in Ukraine since 2014 focusing on educating civilians as to the dangers of landmines and explosive remnants of war and conducting survey and marking of hazardous areas away from the contact line in government controlled areas. DDG is now looking to expand operations in Ukraine to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war in civilian areas.

 

ABOUT JOB

DDG is now seeking to hire a Project Junior Officer to support ongoing risk education projects in eastern Ukraine. Being located in Slovyansk s/he will technically report to DDG Head of Programme located in Kyiv and administratively to Head of Office in Slovyansk. This position requires frequent travel to Kyiv.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assistance with the preparation of purchase requests (PRs), specifically for the DDG team.
  • Assistance with liaison with the State Emergency Services (SES) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) in order to gather sufficient information for multi-donor concept notes.
  • Compose letters in Ukrainian, Russian or English, on behalf of the DDG Operations Officer or the DDG Head of Programme.
  • Provision of programme information to the cluster system (Protection  Cluster, Mine Action Sub-Cluster, MRE Working Group, as relevant) and assurance of representation at relevant meetings.
  • Updating contacts list of key stakeholders within the humanitarian mine action sector in Ukraine.
  • Assistance with DRC/DDG communications efforts, when required
  • Assistance with tasks in support of the smooth running of mine risk education and demining teams

Essential Experience / Qualifications:

  • University level education
  • Fluency in English, Russian and Ukrainian; written and spoken
  • Experience working within the sector of humanitarian mine action in Ukraine is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of landmines and explosive ordnance is a plus

DRC will offer the successful applicant fixed term employment contract. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Local Nationals.
