We are seeking an experienced and dynamic HR Business Partner (HRBP) at the P-1 level to join our HR Business Partner team in the Division of HR in NYHQ via a temporary appointment.

In an effort to measurably improve UNICEF's ability to deliver better results for children, and to also support the HR Reforms, the Division of Human Resources (DHR) is embarking on a transformational process in a number of key areas, including streamlined and efficient talent acquisition, strategic HR business partnering, and results-focused performance management and career development.

In relation, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic HR Business Partner (HRBP) at the P-1 level to join our team via a temporary appointment.

How can you make a difference?

The P-1 HR Officer - Business Partner position is an entry-level professional position and reports to the HR Manager/Specialist for close guidance, training and supervision. The Officer provides support to the supervisor and colleagues in the unit by executing HR services through applying knowledge of theoretical HR models, as well as understanding of organizational HR policies and procedures.

In conjunction with the Supervisor, the HRBPs will work closely with partners and stakeholders to strategically align HR with business needs. HRBPs invest their holistic knowledge of Human Resource Management to guide leadership, management and staff and provide them with sound, tailored, and coherent HR solutions. They will address HR related needs and proactively advise their partners on appropriate strategies and measures. The HRBP Unit also collaborates with Centers of Expertise, Regional HR teams and the Global Shared Service Centre to support the rollout and implementation HR Reform, policies, practices, tools, and much more.


More specifically, the HRBP P-1 TA will:

  • Support HRBP Managers in working with clients to help fulfill their goals by advising on the attraction, retention and motivation of staff of the highest caliber;

  • Support the HRBP Managers in liaising with the HQ Divisions, regional and country offices to support and contribute to corporate HR strategy formulation and global implementation.
  • Interpret and analyze HR data to help inform strategic decision making on HR processes and strategies.

  • Promote HR initiatives that support organizational culture change, improved results and staff development and explain the scope and ramifications of proposed HR initiatives, promoting understanding of their purpose and functional advantages.
  • Keep abreast, research, benchmark and implement best and cutting edge practices in HR management and contribute to the development of global policies and procedures, while introducing innovation through the sharing of best practices and lessons-learned;

  • Provide support to one or various technical HR areas (recruitment, job classification, career development, performance management, data analytics, learning & development etc.) to help supervisors implement efficient client services that will help to attract, retain and/or motivate staff;

  • Maintain and enhance relationships with centers of expertise, the global shared services center and global staff association.

  • Provide support to the design and delivery of learning plans for staff in the respective client areas;

  • Collect, interpret and analyze HR data to help inform decision making on HR processes and strategies;

  • Build and sustain effective collaborative working relationships through active sharing of information and knowledge, with a view to build the capacity of stakeholders and promote their understanding of HR issues


To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A first-level University Degree (Bachelor's) in human resource management, business management, international relations, psychology or other related social science fields is required.
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in human resource management in an international organization and/or large corporation is required.
  • Prior experience as an HR Business Partner is considered an asset.
  • Solid technical knowledge of the principles and concepts of HR management is required.
  • Ability to research, analyse, evaluate, synthesize information, formulate opinions and make conclusions is required.
  • Knowledge of organizational and HR information technology systems and tools is an asset.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with good negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to take initiatives and build strong, productive relationships.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and/or Spanish) is considered an asset.
