The Norwegian Refugee Council is looking for a Staff Safety Adviser to join the team in Yemen. The position will provide expert advice and support on staff safety and risk management to all staff, team members and the Country Management Group. The position will implement NRC staff safety management systems and procedures, conduct risk analyses, provide capacity building, and ensure compliance.

Job description

• Ensure NRC in Yemen is compliant to NRC’s policies, standards and procedures around staff safety and risk management.
• Regularly update the Risk Management and Contingency Plans; and ensure all field officers are compliant and understand the risk management framework.
• Support country and area management teams on crisis management, incident management and post incident management, ensuring lessons learned are documented and operationalised
• Provide regular technical support to staff safety teams at field level, ensuring staff safety and risk mitigation measures at field level are context specific and compliant to NRC standards.
• Ensure alignment and cohesion between programmatic priorities, NRC’s advocacy and access work, staff safety and risk mitigation procedures.
• Take the lead in safety planning for setting up new sites and/or closure of sites/exit planning.
• Advise the Country Management Group (CMG) on necessary changes to existing staff safety and risk management systems on a regular basis.
• Facilitate capacity building for all staff, including to staff safety teams on personal safety and risk mitigation.
• Support CMG in identifying and funding staff safety and risk mitigation measures.

Qualifications

• First Level University Degree/Bachelors level in relevant field and/or equivalent level of directly relevant vocational training.
• Minimum 5 years of international experience working as a staff safety adviser/manager.
• Previous experience working in complex, volatile, humanitarian/recovery contexts, prone to active conflict.
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
• Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
• Prior experience managing staff safety and risk mitigation in high risk contexts.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize and share complex details in a simple manner,
• Excellent negotiation and representation skills; able to network across a variety of stakeholders.
• Prior experience line managing staff (national and international) and supporting staff remotely
• Excellent information management skills and experience
• Knowledge of the context in Yemen, preferable
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
• Arabic language skills, preferable.
• Valid driver’s license.
