ABOUT WFP

The purpose of this job will be to provide support to nutrition programmes and activities to contribute to the nutritional needs of CETA beneficiaries.

The Nutritionist will work under the general guidance of the Head of Nutrition Unit and will report to the Head of Central, East, and Three Areas (CETA) Area Office. The Nutritionist will act as a roaming officer for all CETA areas.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced University degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine or other relevant field.
  • Five years of postgraduate relevant experience with progressively increasing responsibilities. International experience desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of current issues in nutrition in emergency, coordination mechanisms in the UN, experience with survey methodologies in nutrition or public health, advanced computer skills, knowledge of a statistical package would be an advantage, general understanding of the UN policies and procedures.
  • Fluency in English required, knowledge of Arabic or another UN official language is desirable.

EXPECTED RESULTS

  • Well prepared, planned and managed above outlined activities and programmes;
  • well analyzed and timely submitted reports with clear recommendations for action.
  • Update on scale-up strategy for integrated blanket supplementary feeding in CETA, specifically within the East;
  • Reintroducing nutrition interventions in emergency locations (South Kordofan, Blue Nile); Regular reports summarizing all project activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Manage, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of all nutrition programmes (TSFP, e-BSFP, FBPMAM, HF, SBCC and nutrition sensitive/specific activities) and activities by CETA partners in all CETA areas.
  • Contribute to the development of nutrition projects and activities, plans and processes (assist in developing the annual operational plan for all nutrition activities implemented/supported by WFP), ensuring alignment with wider WFP-MOH nutrition policies and guidance.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships and coordinate with all nutrition stakeholders (MoH/GoS, UN, NGOs, others).
  • Recommend locations that require nutritional interventions and identify relevant partners
  • Support the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting nutrition needs – both National and International cooperating partners – implementing WFP nutrition programmes.
  • Review project proposals submitted by CPs and provide recommendations to the Head of Area Office. And, participate in Local Project Review Committee (LPRC) meetings.
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs for example the production and review of training materials. Organize nutrition and basic food trainings for staff and partners. Guide more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
  • Maintain nutrition database on prevalence rates and performance indicators to reach an effective state-wide nutrition monitoring and prepare regular updates on the nutrition situation of population.
  • Develop and co-ordinate an efficient data gathering and monitoring/assessment systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained; for all CETA nutrition supported activities and produce monthly reports.
  • Ensure that the nutrition activities are following national and WFP protocols, guidelines and SOPs.
  • Undertake regular programme performance reviews of WFP food and nutrition activities in consultation with the relevant WFP units, sub offices and cooperating partners (CPs). Liaise with implementing partners (internal and external) to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  • Represent CETA-WFP in all meetings relevant to nutrition activities
  • Participate in the finalization of weekly situation report to country office.
  • Almost 60% of the time to be spent in field offices – as mentioned above – to assist in the implementation of activities, oversight missions, meetings with partners etc.
  • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.
  • Perform other duties as required

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The Nutritionist will be based in Khartoum, Sudan – with regular field travel; approximately 60% of the time spent in field offices – Red Sea, Kassala (including Gadarif), North Kordofan (including West Kordofan), South Kordofan, Blue Nile, and White Nile
