What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the post

The Supply-Chain Coordinator 1 is responsible for coordinating the timely response to requests for logistics services (procurement, transport and warehousing) from within the ICRC, in accordance with the Logistics Division’s customer service policy.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Processes requisition orders according to ICRC logistics and financial procedures.
  • Enters and updates the information needed to track and monitor each order, including pipeline follow-up where required.
  • Oversees the ICRC’s headquarters supply chain, liaises with the logistics support centres, and ensures that the orders’ technical specifications have been approved in accordance with headquarters logistics procedures.
  • Applies the orders' fulfilment mode as agreed based on the global stocks strategy for each category.
  • Regularly informs internal customers about their orders and liaises with them to prevent or solve supply-chain blockages.
  • Receives, responds to, passes on and follows up on feedback from the field.
  • Contributes to improving supply-chain processes.
  • Provides technical answers concerning orders or refers enquiries to technical/management units within the Logistics Division or other divisions.
  • Applies the contingency stock guidelines for the assigned product category.
  • Internally, interacts with other logistics staff and with the Assistance, Resource Mobilization, and Finance and Administration Divisions.
  • Externally, interacts with logistics service providers and counterparts within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Education and Experience Required

  • University degree in logistics or a technical field related to the assigned product category.
  • 3 – 5 years' professional experience, with previous experience in supply-chain/ logistics/purchasing in a complex logistics environment.
  • At least one year of ICRC (or Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement) field experience required
  • Good command of spoken and written English and French.
  • Computer proficiency; experience with enterprise resource planning software an asset.
