STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Secondary school education. University courses/diploma in political science or graduated military/police officers is an asset.

Experience: Do you have at least four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in the Security Field such as military/police officer, Security Analyst or any relevant security experience. UN/NGO experience is a plus.

Langauge: Fluency in oral and written communication in English and Arabic.

JOB PURPOSE

To perform a range of specialised and process-oriented responsibilities related to security operations including monitoring and maintaining security equipment in line with established procedures.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Supervision received: The Security Assistant reports to the Head of Sub Office (HoSO) and technically supervised by the Field Security Officer (FSO).

Accountabilities: The Security Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide comprehensive review of countrywide security situation on a daily basis and advise/brief the HoSO/FSO on trends/situation that could affect WFP operations;
  • Ensure the full transfer of information before starting or finishing a duty shift;
  • Provide support to the HoSO/FSO in investigations, in-depth incident reports and security assessments as requested;
  • Conduct field trips to support sub-offices or staff in the field at short notice whenever requested by HoSO/ FSO;
  • Liaise and coordinate with the security representatives of the host government and other organizations on all matters related to the security of WFP staff members and their eligible dependents and property;
  • Update and maintain various lists maps for security purposes, such as a list of essential/ non-essential staff list, a list of staff and dependents, a warden list and office communication trees;
  • Keep the Security Plan and WFP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) up-to-date, including lists of staff, and eligible dependents, maps, and any other information requires update;
  • Ensure that emergency and fire safety arrangements, and plans are in place such as building evacuation, evacuation /relocation, safe haven and support FSO and management in conducting the drills.
  • Resolve problems related to relocation/evacuation;
  • Assist in monitoring the compliance with Security Risk Mitigation Measures (SRMM) requirements for all WFP office(s) in the Sub Office.
  • Assess the security situation at the duty station, including assessing threats related to the WFP staff safety, and prepare security reports; report all cases where staff members and/or their eligible dependents have been victims of conventional crimes; coordinate 24 hours response to all security related incidents involving WFP staff and eligible dependents;
  • Assist and carry out security evaluation to provide advice on residence security measures (RSM) for the residences of WFP staff;
  • Act as the direct focal point for security guards and supervisors in the assigned area; support security guard supervisor in solving problems and report any issues to HoSO/FSO;
  • Be on call 24 hours a day seven days a week to support HoSO/FSO/staff as required;
  • Manage Access Control System to WFP buildings;
  • Manage maintenance and upgrade of security technologies; organize training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness for staff members and their eligible family members as appropriate;
  • Brief newly arrived WFP staff members;
  • Ensure that the appropriate level of confidentiality is maintained with regard to security matters;
  • In collaboration with FSO, evaluate, develop and recommend procedures for WFP operations. Participate in discussions on new/revised procedures and practices;
  • Interpret and assess the impact of situation changes and make recommendations on follow up actions;
  • Organize security services for the various meetings including parking facilities;
  • Participate in and coordinate training events as required;
  • Tracking of WFP vehicles in coordination with Administration department.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all Vehicles, including AV’s in timely manner, in coordination with the Administration department.
  •  Perform other security related duties as required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Professional background directly related with security issues (e.g. in military, police,etc).
  • Good political and social knowledge of the country.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard computer applications, electronic security databases, automated alarm and video surveillance systems or other security equipment.
