Organizational Background

The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer and overall supervision of the Senior Logistics Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Provide support to logistics operations and activities, ensuring the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries;
  • Support timely ordering and delivery of commodities and supplies to authorised partners and destinations;
  • Assist in the full rollout of the Logistics Vehicle Tracking Project, including monitoring and undertaking support missions to WFP Area Offices;
  • Support harmonisation of the Vehicle Tracking Project activities and standards across the different Area Offices;
  • Monitor assets transporting WFP life-saving cargo, evaluate their movements, analyse the routes and distance travelled and provide feedback to the Logistics Operational team;
  • Detect and investigate trucks diversions and irregularities and take the necessary action in coordination with the relevant focal point;
  • Manage the Vehicle Tracking Project Help Desk, acting as liaison between the Vehicle Tracking Project Manager, the Country Office, Area Office focal points and other support teams;
  • Provide efficient support and training to users on Vehicle Tracking equipment and procedures;
  • Attend and participate in meetings to provide inputs, identify challenges and define planned activities;
  • Collaborate with Country Office Logistics Operations team to ensure consistency in project implementation;
  • Share the Daily Situation Report with the Vehicle Tracking Project Manager on the assets moved by Area Offices, challenges, pending requests and planned activities;
  • Draft weekly vehicle tracking reports and other ad hoc reports as requested;
  • Maintain inventory of vehicle tracking equipment;
  • Make recommendations for potential improvements on the Vehicle Tracking Project;
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certification in logistics is desirable.


Experience: Four years of progressively responsible support experience in logistics operations and real-time systems management and ICT.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is a requirement. Knowledge of Somali language would be an asset.

Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Sound knowledge and use of real-time online tracking systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with different teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, analyze data and prepare reports;
  • Previous experience in emergencies is desirable;
  • Hands on experience in UN administrative regulations and policies in the area of work is a plus.
