  1. Role and responsibilities

     

    The Hygiene Promotion Assistant - Roving is responsible for assisting in the day to day implementation of the WASH program in Bekaa Lebanon through carrying out quality hygiene promotion activities for beneficiaries.

  1. Monitor and report on the Hygiene Promotion activities and ensure compliance with plans and NRC standards
  2. Mobilize communities and community leaders for building materials, construction activities and maintenance of structures
  3. Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities
  4. Report all protection related concerns
  5. Carry out data collection as required
  6. Assists in preparing IEC materials (flyers, leaflets, posters and brochures) and other education and communication materials
  7. Conduct HP activities according to the prepared lesson plans based on monthly targets as advised by the Hygiene Promotion Officer
  8. Prepare and file relevant documents according to procedures
  9. Carry out related mainstreaming of protection in programme daily implementation as per the set NRC’s Protection mainstreaming guidelines, and ensure reporting any breaches/concerns to the line manager for proper action.

     

    Specific responsibilities

    • Facilitate hygiene promotion related activities and ensure compliance with plans and NRC guidelines;
    • Mentor WASH focal points in informal tented settlements ensuring they are able to facilitate hygiene promotion, hygiene kit distributions and other WASH activities;
    • Work closely with WASH Committees and community members, highlighting community participation and ownership;
    • Conduct hygiene promotion activities and distributions in formal and informal schools as per work plan;
    • Familiarize with new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the HP activities;
    • Perform site monitoring together with focal points assuring quality control of the activities & services;
    • Report all protection related concerns to line manager;
    • Participate in data collection, KAP surveys, PDMs;
    • Ensure registration and inclusion of new refugees, report internal and external referrals and ensure follow up and feedback to refugees and focal points involved;
    • Report activities using distribution lists, attendance lists and Kobo online activity reporting;
    • Monitor targets and monitor behavioural changes on a regular basis in accordance with the M&E work plan;
    • Liaise with the technical team to ensure harmonization of activities and integration of hard and soft WASH activities

       

      Critical interfaces

      • Line manager: The roving HPA will work under the supervision of the DBO, she/he have to report the activities done and refer cases (WASH, protection, education and shelter) to the line manager on a daily basis.
      • Water and Sanitation team: Liaison with the water and sanitation team, refer WASH facilities and technical follow up needed during their field visit or referred by the WASH committees. Attend monthly/weekly meetings with the water and sanitation team to share achievements, challenges and follow up on referrals.
      • CMC: ensure WASH focal points are (s)elected, trained and inclusive in the CMC approach with referrals reported via the internal joint-online-reporting mechanism
      • Education: conduct hygiene promotion in schools as per education work plan
      • Shelter: coordinate on activities linked to shelter in settlements, and where applicable in SSU/SSB
      • ICLA: familiar with and able to deal with referral cases, follow up communication with beneficiaries

Professional competencies

  • University degree, emphasis in Public Health, Biochemistry, Biology or any related major
  • Vocational training in teaching, nursing, public health or social worker
  • Trained in hygiene promotion activities in informal settlements
  • Experience in working with hygiene promotion projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous NGO working experience
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Proficiency in English & Arabic both written and spoken
