The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme (or recent graduate);
  • Be proficient in English, knowledge of an additional UN language is considered an asset; and
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.

Job organizational context

UNICEF’s ICT function is in a state of transformation, in line with the recognition of the changing tide of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) world and the business environment in which it serves. The ICT function is focused on continued improvement of services for the realization of UNICEF’s mandate. It incorporates continuous improvement so as to better leverage technology for competitive advantage and business value optimization.

One such improvement is strengthening Risk Management and dynamically realigning ICT regulatory documents to address potential risks. Accordingly, the ICTD Strategy, Risk Management and Governance team is seeking an ICT Policy Intern to provide support with strengthening and enhancing the ICTD Regulatory documents in a logical, clear and understandable fashion.

Purpose of the internship

The ICT Policy Intern will be responsible for supporting the Risk Management Unit by drafting and editing ICT policies, procedures, standards and guidance (hereafter called ICT regulatory documents) for use by UNICEF offices and personnel. Under the guidance of the ICT Risk Manager, the Intern supports the identification, drafting and editing of documentation to address ICT-related risks.

Key Duties and Tasks

  • Under the guidance of the ICT Risk Manager, support the development of ICT regulatory documents for use by all UNICEF users.
  • Develop, edit and validate ICT regulatory documents that can be easily understood by all UNICEF personnel and our partners.
  • Ensure that ICT regulatory documents are not contradictory to each other or to other Office’s regulatory documents or objectives.
  • Liaise with document managers, key stakeholders and management reviewers during the development of ICT regulatory documents. Support maintenance of the ICT regulatory documents system of record. 
  • Develop communication to introduce the new or updated ICT regulatory documents to target audiences, provide first line help to users. 

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Current student or recent graduate of an undergraduate or master’s programme in Management Information Systems, English Language, Business Administration, Information Technology Management or other related fields.
  • Fluency in written and verbal English, with strong composition and editorial skills. Ability to translate technology processes to business language that users can easily understand and follow.
  • Working knowledge in Policy writing an asset.
  • Working knowledge in supporting large, complex IT organisation is an asset.

Remarks

Due to the volume of applications received, only shortlisted candidates will be notified. 

A monthly stipend as contribution towards living and transportation expenses will be provided up to $1,500.00 for the selected candidate.
